Hi guys, I have a Panther that is 8 months old, and he just seems so small to me. At least compared to my last Panther boy at this age. I know they say try not to wonder too much about why, as they all grow at different rates, but this just seems a little odd. Haha. He has been shedding quite frequently lately though so perhaps he is having a growth spurt??? What do you guys think?

How long have you had him? I would never have guessed 8 months from those pics, but anything's possible. How much does he eat?

Are you sure he is male? Have you ever gotten him tested for parasites?
We bought him and his "sister" together as male and female, and she was clearly female, but I'm beginning to be unsure of him. He NEVER displays any of the typical female colors, even when he's mad, and my camera doesn't really show his other colors either. That being said, I still argue with myself about it every day! Haha. No, I haven't had him tested or anything. Maybe I will look into it. He is a super healthy guy otherwise.

I know, it tripped me out too when I ran across his paperwork the other day. I have had him since April and he was born on January 6th. He eats every day. I dust the feeders in calcium every feeding, and every other Sunday I alternate between a multivitamin and a calcium w/D3. He also has adequate UVA/UVB and heat/humidity. My last cham was a late bloomer too, but jeez, this one seems small even if he did wind up being female.

Do you use calcium without d3 every feeding? If not you need to start!
You're actually not supposed to do that with panthers because their body doesn't use up dietary D3 as well as just a sythesized D3. Desert species can handle it though.

edit: I misread, I thought you said use WITH D3 every feeding. Yes, he gets gutloaded and calcium dusted crickets every feeding. Haha

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you have a female. Anyone else see a bulge I don't see?

I would still get a fecal done and test for parasites. Parasites can keep them from growing

See, some days I swear he's male and other days I think female! I guess it just depends on the current colors and position of him/her. I'm gonna definitely be looking into getting a fecal test done. Thanks for the tip!
