I think my guy is dying, I'm so sad!

Oh this is the most sweetest, sad thread. I’m so sorry about Marlo but you gave him a wonderful life and he taught you so much without realizing it over the years. The memories are precious.
You made the right decision by you and Marlo and don’t feel regret over that. He was lucky to choose you to hang with for 8 long years. Sounds like it was quite an awesome adventure for both of you! ❤️

It's always such a struggle to make the decision to put your loved one down, but in the end we always know in our hearts when it's time to say goodbye. You gave Mario an amazing life! I hope you find peace in mind knowing you gave him all the love and support any cham could ever need for a terrific 8 years. Hopefully one day you can open up your heart to another lucky cham and make more beloved memories. 💕

Thank you so much. It was definitely an awesome adventure, you are right about that! Just last month my husband came into the living room and said calmly "one of your roaches escaped and is on the bedroom floor." and I ran in an scooped it up the dubia and put it back in it's bin. And we laughed at the weird situation where it was no big deal to pick up a roach in your bedroom with your bare hands.

Thank you very much. We laid him to rest under our beautiful cherry tree yesterday and said our goodbyes. Today I'll need to disassemble his enclosure because it's so sad to see it empty now...

I'm so sorry for your loss - you sound like an excellent keeper and should be proud at keeping him alive and thriving for 8 years! It's always tough, but it's the bargain we all make when we take these amazing creatures into our hearts and homes. Rest easy knowing you made the best possible choice. Hopefully, someday you will be ready to have another one in your life, because the world needs more chameleon keepers like you.

Thank you so much for your very kind words, I really appreciate it. I like what you said about this being the bargain we all make, that’s very true and helps to remember.

Wow 8 years is a good long life! He must have been well maintained and very loved. I’m very sorry for your loss 💔
Thank you, he was definitely very loved and is missed. It’s hard not having him to care for, he was such a part of my daily routine. I still have a green anole in that room but she’s the last of my exotic pets. I bought her on a whim just a month after I got Marlo from the breeder. She was being sold as snake food for $3 and I loved her pointy little face. But she’s over eight years old now too, probably older since she was an adult when I got her and likely wild caught. But it’s odd, I could see him slowing down and getting older while she is the same as the day I got her. Sounds like her life span is supposedly 8 years as well according to google, but she still seems young.

call from ohio vet "hey someone bought a plant from homedepot and it came with a free green lizard so they dropped it off here, you want it?" and thats how i got my last green anole.

I don't know what to do and I'm totally panicking. Marlo has gone downhill fast, even since yesterday. He's been acting pretty odd in the last week or two, sleeping downward, hanging by his tail, sleeping during the day. This morning I found him nose down in a plant so I moved him back to his branch. I went in to check on him shortly after and he was asleep again, hanging by his tail. I've moved him on to a towel now and he immediately went back to sleep. I woke him to offer food and he just closed his eyes. He has never refused food before and has been eating and drinking very well until just today. He's been so tired but I think this is it, is he dying right now? He has not been sick as far as I can tell. He is an ambanja panther chameleon, 8 years 3 month old. I don't know what to do for him at this point, I'm super upset.
hey man, sorry you’re dealing with this. at his age and with how suddenly things changed it’s pretty serious. just keep him calm, comfortable, proper temps maybe offer a bit of water and see if he responds. if you can getting him to a reptile vet asap would be the best move just to be sure what’s going on.

They sure make cute little pets, right? That's cool that the vet in your area knew to call you! The pet shop I bought mine from told me not to bother when I mentioned I was getting her as a pet and not a feeder, said they are too difficult to keep alive as pets. Um, no. She gets the same level of care as my cham did and similar enclosure/lighting/misting/heat systems and feeders, just on a smaller scale.
