I rescued a Leopard Gecko today

I rescued this little gecko. The person who had her before just gave her to me. He thought she was actually a he. She was in a tank with sand in it. Very dirty sand too.. There was tiny little bugs crawling all over the tank :/.. It was nasty.. And all he used for heat was a heat lamp.. No UTH... I was told she's about 5 years old, if not a little older. He tail was broken so it's kinda stuby. I felt so bad for her. Some of her toes are all crooked and one is missing. She had shed skin stuck on her toes so I gave her a warm bath in the sink to help it come off. I completely cleaned out her tank and put paper towel on the bottom. I got a tupperware container and cut a hole in it. I may put tape around it so she has more to hide from. gave her a water dish and mealworm dish.. I will have to go out later after this snow storm is gone and get her some calcium without d3.. All I have at the moment is the calcium WITH d3 :/.. not sure what to name her yet. I need to get another tupperware dish for her humidity box soon too. I already have 2 small undertank heaters so that wasnt an issue.

Heres a picture of the poor girl. I couldnt get her to eat neither.. Maybe she just needs to settle in first..?
Any idea what kind she is? I cant really tell with hiw dark she is

Poor thing!!! People like that really burn my britches! Why have the pet if you are not going to care for it? Good luck with your new arrival.

You don't use calcium without d3 for your chameleons?

I just ran out. When the cat somehow got into our room he had made a mess with the calcium :/.. So I only had a little left. We just got hit with a big snow storm so weve been stuck in, therefore I cant get to the store..

try feeding her tonight....they are more active at night and thats when they hunt (well mine do anyways)...also...i found out that mine prefer to drink water off the side of the tank.... i have a water bowl in their tank and i also spray it the sides...i only see them lick the water off the side of the tank (like i said mine do anyways)....anyways good job rescuing her....and good luck!!!

Thanks! I got het to eat finally. She ate 4 crickets dusted in the calcium and 20 small mealworms

You can dust your feeders with calcium D3 until you get some without. A lot of people leave a dish of plain calcium in the tank and dust with D3 a few times a week. Some alternate between dusting with D3 and no D3 every other feeding (and have a dish of calcium). I belong to the gecko forum and I don't believe I've ever seen a clear consensus on which to use. I dust mine with D3 a once or twice a week and without the rest of the time. There is always calcium without D3 in their dish. Do you know was being used before you got him? The only reason I would say not to dust with D3 is if the previous owner only used that and not plain calcium.

The previous owner did not use any calcium what so ever...........
They was starving her... That's why she is skinny.. She had NO food in with her(unless she decided to eat the roley poleys that was in the sand or the little bugs that was in there )... She had NO water.. She had a dish in with her but it was filled with sand and it was so nasty..
I dont mean to go on about it but it was rediculos.. Her sand probably wasnt changed for months. There was a HUGE pile of poop on one end. When I cleaned it out all of the sand was basically like a rock.. It all was hard.. So I had to scrape it out. It was horrible!
