Notice how the other two elephants come to smash pumpkins when the first elephant gets a big cheer for smashing a pumpkin.

Or they were just late to dinner. The elephants seemed to be enjoying their seasonal treat, which explains their motive in smashing them—elephant candy! Mmmmm... ☺

I saw that on TV last night and thought it was interesting that they knew enough to keep stepping on them to get them broken into "bite" sized pieces!
