I Mourn For My Babies

Been a long, long time since I posted anything on these forums as just been too busy and Covid has taken it's toll on us all.

Unfortunately since my last post (whenever it was) I have lost three of my wee green babies.

Frodo - We just don't know what happened to him as one day he was just fine and 24hrs later he was gone and dancing over the Rainbow Bridge. He was only 7mths old.

Merlin - Thanks to Covid no vets in my area where taking any animal cases unless an emergency and life threatening accident/illness. I therefore couldn't get my boys 2mthly poop samples checked as normal and by the time the vet was open to this type of care my boy's wee body had parasites which a sample had to go to a Herpitologist Specialist Lab to suss out what these things where. The sample was finally taken and sent on a Friday and my boy slipped away on the Sunday. Another baby over the Rainbow Bridge.

Arwen - again so quick - I was looking at her in her vivarium and she was as a happy as a clam one day. The next I was looking at her and just knew something wasn't right so straight onto the vet (my local vet practice has a vet who specialises in exotic pets such as the green gang chameleons) and managed to get an appointment that afternoon at 5pm. I had her in my hands all day and at just past 3pm her wee heart stopped and she slipped away and herself went for her dance over that Rainbow Bridge.

I'll post up pictures of my three lost babies when I get home as I'm at work just now. It's taken me so long to post up as I thought I was the kiss of death to my babies but my family, friends and my vet said I had done everything I could for them and personally I was ready to sell my soul to the devil to help them if it came to that.

My big fella Ziggy goes from strength to strength and gets more grumpy looking everyday and apart from some dehydration (well under control now) and a Vit.A deficiency (again now under control) he's great and I obviously thought I was going to lose him as well. God forbid anything happens to him as it will be the equivalent of a full blown state funeral.

The common denominator in the loss of my three babies was the shop where I got them from (I got the Zigger Man from a private seller). The shop itself is immaculate and the Queen would eat her lunch from the floor. When I told my vet practice about the loss of Arwen they asked where I had got her from and the looks on all their faces when I told them was shocking. They have had numerous complaints about the quality of the animals that store sold with just about all of them having health related issues with most dying within 3mths and they only lasted that long only through the love and care of their owners so I have vowed never to go near that store again. The staff at my vet begged me not to get any other pets from that store.

All I wanted to do was to give my babies a safe and loving home and I failed them all.

I now have another 12wk old Veiled Chameleon (Zak) from a totally different and apparently well regarded store and the wee green dude has melted everyone's heart that has met him (he's got a concertina like kink to his tail and when I first saw him I have to admit I nearly said no thanks but there was just something about him that got to me and his kinked tail, to me gives him a bit of character and doesn't appear to hinder him in any way. He's so tiny you can't feel a thing as he walks over you whereas Ziggy rivals Godzilla. My vet was delighted to hear I got him from another shop which she has heard of. He goes for his 1st health check up on the 21st of this month.

I'll post up pics of the wee dude and the grumpy one when I get home later on.

I miss my babies so much and when I see them again I can apologise all over again for failing them in their short lifes.

Very cute! How long did you have them for? Arwen is so small and cute!! I like the LOTR names too! That's mine and my husband's fav movies. 🤣🤣

Frodo and Merlin were only 9mth old when I lost them but my wee baby Arwen was just 3mths old when she danced over the Rainbow Bridge.

So sorry for you tragic loss. The store knew how to be clean to the naked eye but not clean of parasites. Very sad you had to experience this.
