I have an important question.

Hi guys. I was just wondering on how long it took your chameleon to get tired of crickets.... So I really need advice on what else to feed to my chameleon when he gets tired of crickets... I want to be prepared before I buy a bulk and doesn't want to eat one cricket from it :/

I think youd be better off with a few insects mixing them up day to day rather than say.. batch to batch? if that makes sense..

itd be like.. if you were being fed carrots untill 1000 carrots were gone, then you got to eat 1000 more...or whatever.. you get the idea.

i dont actually have one yet but i think if you mix things up day to day or at least week to week you shouldnt have a problem any time soon. someone will correct me if im wrong im sure but thats what ive taken away from my reading.

The thing is idk what to feed besides mealworms and crickets :s

There are plenty of options for you. Hornworms, superworms, silkworms, butterworms, crickets, roaches (dubia, hissing, lobster) certain butterflies and mantids, fly's, just to name a few. variety is key and will keep you cham interested.

Im having the same problem now actually. got a great deal on a large amount of supers, and there just getting board so i started feeding of my dubia roach colony

None of mine have ever been tired of crickets. Do you get tired of steak when you have it a couple times a week? Probably not, but you might not find it as delicious if you ate it every day, twice a day.

Go to sites like Mulberryfarms.com and order any of the insects they have for sale there. You can still offer crickets a lot but have other insects that are easy to keep/breed in bulk like superworms and roaches, and order in something different every once in a while. Depending on what you can afford. So that way he's getting 3-4+ types of food a week instead of just one.

It'll be healthier for his growth too. Unless your gutload is fantastic, your guy will get a more rounded nutrition from a wider source of bugs.

LOL..only reason i decided recently to breed, mealies and hornworms, was because i dont want my chams despizing crix, and , not too into roaches, even if i can say they are "coconut beetles" or whatever clever name i can make for them to 'not' be roaches, lol..but i just personally hate roaches, they remind me of filth (even when crickets are supposed to be the more filthy ones!)...reminds me of taco stands in T.J. (roaches come jumping out when they open the lids..soooo bad, and yes ive seen it..) :(

Look closely at a cricket, they are just a roach that is modified for jumping. Insects that would normally be dirty in the wild can be quite sanitary in captive environments. It took some time, but I'm no longer disgusted to hold bottle fly maggots bc I know what they are eating and that they're not dirty like wild maggots.;)

To me it is

And that's what counts. So what are you planning to buy to mix it up a bit? I've just ordered calciworms, because of how much my male liked waxworms..........he decided to refuse crickets almost totally, but I also breed locusts and mealworms. Locusts are a staple for him now. I also catch a few flies and spiders for them, but you can't do that too often.

Ok ok ok I will actually give some valid advice -- Male crickets have way larger mandibles, heads, and wings. They can bite much better and have way more tough fiber. A bite from one of these will turn your cham off crickets. To avoid this feed only smaller crix and avoid full adult males -- just smash em or feed them to a larger animal.

That really is useful advice - I wish I'd not had to work that one out for myself......I keep the adults for 'Joy Division' now.........

If my question is stupid then why do you even waste your damn time replying back?.... Could care less about your stupid opionions.

I knew that was going to happen :D- You just have to defend yourself if you want to stick around, right? It was clearly a joke.............;)

Just jabbing you about the title of your thread. An important question here is -- "My chameleon's uterus and intestines are hanging out of her cloaca and there are worms coming out of her mouth. What do I do?"

Aside from that see my advice two posts up. It is possible that your cham will never get sick of crix!
