I HATE my neighbors

So, as some of you may know, certainly you Florida members, when it gets chilly out the wild iguanas tend to fall of their perches and go in a state of "suspended animation". We had 4 large iguanas in our yard who had succumbed to the cold and needed to be warmed up before they would become active again, one, however hit a rock on its way down and had severe head trauma, I knew she wouldnt make it. We had put the remaining three out on the side of our house nears some big rocks so they could heat up quickly when the sun came out the next day, (mind you this is near our neighbors house.). When we returned home after grabbing a bite to eat, all 3 were gone, how could this be? It was still freezing! Long story short, a little birdie told me how our neighbor came into our yard and took the "lizards" and disposed of them, since they were "dead". This is not the first case of this happening to one of the big green guys that inhabit my yard. Yet another thing to add to my reasons of why I hate my neighbors, along with the eggings and ding-dong ditches :).

On the bright side, I found a little guy (maybe 6 inches) who looked like they were trying to get inside the house (on the window screen) that I was able save, its too cold for him to warm up completley but hes safe so he can warm up tommorrow. Cant wait for this cold to be gone, and my neighbors to move! (in my dreams :p)

People can be so cruel. Or stupid, dont know which haha.

Perhaps it is time for you to set up some sort of house security. Trespassing!

Why not educate them about cold torpor? Best cure for ignorance is enlightenment. :)

It's not like that, I was sugar-coating it, he purposely does it, and he knows better, when they are vulnerable is when he can easily get rid of them. He has "exterminated" a completely fine male once. Guess some people cant spare a few blades of grass and some flowers :(

@ Syn, were getting video cameras installed, waaay ahead of ya ;)

Theres a lot of crazys in Fl who hate and do awful things to iguanas. Sorry to hear about your neighbors.

WOW, I sympathize with the igunas. I try to keep my little lizard haven safe for the iguanas. They don't harm anything and look really great!

Thanks for trying!

Thank you so much for trying to help these animals. I've been heartbroken reading the news about the iguanas falling from trees, tortoises floating in a daze and other reptiles perishing from the cold. I've got two adult iguanas that I've had for over seven years. That species suffers so much abuse in captivity. I hope your neighbor gets bit some day by an angry adult iguana who then manages to escape into the bushes. I also read in the news that a guy who breeds and raising tropical aquarium fish outside lost over a hundred thousand fish last weekend. Thanks again for trying to help!

That's horrible. I don't know why people hate the iguanas so much, I think they're the coolest things to see walking around. Seeing the really huge ones basking on the sides of neighborhood streets is the best, they look so much like dinosaurs.

Could you get this person in trouble for trespassing? With the security cameras you'll have a better case if it happens again, but maybe a nice visit from the police warning them to stay off your yard would be a nice incentive to stop? ;)

That's really sick and F'd up your neighbor does this on purpose. I assume your family and friends are aware of this and would verbally back you up. That combined with video evidence of him in the act should be enough to make a police report towards your neighbor's ongoing acts of animal cruelty (and torture if he throws them away alive). I know Florida has many different conservation efforts currently active. I'm sure there's a way to legally make your neighbor pay for what he's done. Then you wont have to worry or wait for him to move!

Hey guys, unfortunately I dont have concrete proof hes done it as we dont yet have cameras installed, If I see him, I will confront him, and not necessarily in a negative way, maybe just let him know that Im aware of what hes done and if its not stopped I will do something about it, he did the same thing last year....

Today I found a cuban knight anole that had fallen victim to the cold, he was a big friendly guy that always liked handouts, I hope he pulls through, but he was full of ants (literally; normally when the fall from trees they have their mouths open).

I am amazed how cruel people can be, I have been doing research on how this long cold snap has affected the iguanas and some of the things people say are horrible, theres alot of people out there that want them gone for good :(. I hope to see just as many this summer as last, but I think that this long cold snap will affect their numbers alot. I still have that one baby that I found clinging to the screen. Thank God for the warmup thats coming.
