I don't want to screw this up!

OK, so I'm another "new guy". I have a leopard tortoise whom is doing awesome and I have had a bearded dragon in the past, but chameleons are a whole different ball game and I don't take the responsibility lightly.

I will be getting a Veiled Cham eventually, but I want to make sure I have my poop in a group before I do. I have 2 Pothos plants maturing as we speak, lighting is in the mail (basking and UVB). An enclosure with a good drainage system is in the works. I have a misting system sitting in my "In Box" waiting for me to complete my order. I think I have gut loading and cricket size down.

My question is about supplements. I haven't purchased supplements yet but this is my plan and PLEASE, PLEASE, correct me if I'm wrong.

Dust crickets with Rep-Cal phosphorus free/D3 free calcium every day.

Dust crickets with Herptivite multi-vitiman every two weeks (say...every other Monday) and forgo plain calcium on these days.

Dust crickets with Rep-cal phosphorus free/WITH D3 calcium every two weeks (the mondays I don't do the multi-vit) and forgo plain calcium.

Any advice is more than welcome!

Totally correct on the supplements, but remember to do lots of different feeders and veggies/fruits for your veiled. You only mentioned crickets so I just want to make sure you are doing soft bodied feeders too and also some other chitin filled feeders, like silkworms/hornworms and roaches/superworms (on occasion). Crickets are great but they always need variety.

What are you gut loading with, or planning to?

Also for good veggies (so she/he doesn't strip your pothos bare) mustard greens and collard greens are good, fruits need to be sliced in bite sized pieces and only feed as treats, but I have hear peeled blueberries and strawberries are happily eaten. Remember when they are younger they are less likely to eat the plant matter and need more protein than they need the plants.

Hi and welcome to the forum! We LOVE new keepers that do their research beforehand, so good job.

This may be useful to you if you have any other questions or doubts: https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/chameleons/
There is a veiled-specific caresheet as well, but the different sections go over everything in detail so it's a great resource. Feeding, lighting, setting up the cage, sexing your chameleon, etc.

Thanks!! :D

My plan is to gut load the crickets with Bug Burger as well as other acceptable fruits and veggies. Is it true that broccoli can block the absorption of calcium? I know its a no-no for my tortoise. I will definitely look into other creepy crawlys to feed!

I will have to check out other non "meat" foods for my future guy! I know I would get bored if I had to eat the same thing everyday!!

Bk is my neighbor / best friend she's totally awesome....trust me, she is going to spoil this veiled so much! He will live like a king! Glad to see you're finally posting in here Bk, instead of just reading!

Also guess what guys! She's buying her veiled from a sponser! :D I'm glad she listened to me and went to this site. I think I deserve a pat on the back Bk hahahA

Well, I blame you for starting this. LOL. I do love me some critters though! If I'm not doing homework or cleaning up after my minions I'm probably stalking this forum :) It has kind of become an obsession :D

A lot of veggies will inhibit the absorption of calcium, spinach will, dandelion greens will a little bit, kale will, broccolli and most types of cabbage will. There are probably more XD just need to look them up
