Just out of curiosity, at what point do you say you have a mite problem? I can see very fine white mites on the eggcrates in my dubia colony, but only a few, like one per egg "holster," maybe a bit more, but certainly not overrunning the colony as far as I can tell.

The bin has screen on the lid and the bin stays in my closet. I open the doors to get some crickets for my chameleon and check my snails, and that's probably the only air that circulates.
