Ouch-I would not go with a compact-too many eye issues and even death from some of the compact bulbs-do a search on them. Go Zoomed Reptiun 5.0 linear flourescent tube and a clamp lamp with a low wattage bulb for basking-this is where you need the therometer with the probe to gage temps or you will cook him.

ya i was trying to get the tube one but they didn't have it and though i better get something for now.i will go look for more stuff tomarrow. is it ok for them to be a brown color?

If you can, you really should take this cham back and exchange for a male. You are asking for a world of problems. I would not even THINK of getting a female until I had a few years exp. with a male. They can and usually do lay eggs weather theres a male around or not. Females can lay seventy eggs and their nutritional requirements are demanding. Just a suggestion. Brown usually means he is unhappy or stressed or sick.

yes i have rep-cal ultra fine powder for dusting and some green cubes,the guy said this bulb would work for basking as well but obviously i know you are gonna tell me no lol i do have a lamp that i have by the cage now for heat relizing the other one is not gonna give heat. ok so is it ok for me to shut every thing off at night? Geeze i feel so stupid now all my research has left my brain haha.

Refer to trion on color. she has more exp with more chameleons than i do i believe. both my veiled rarely if ever turn brown unless they are unhappy or somethings not right. They will turn brown when sunning, usually just the side facing light source. David

well i was trying to get a better look at the claw and it hissed and lunged at me lol. they only had one i really hope not a female i think it may be a little stressed i have been watching it for 2 days at the store and it has always been green it's just the last few hours it has started the brown

i just turned out the light on the tank and it has climbed to the top trying to get on the mesh at the top. i am a little worried he will fall i have noticed when he gets himself stuck he turns light brown and wite on the bottom so i am not ssure if her is scared?

just turn your lights and tv if u have one off and he/she will settle down and go to sleep. i wouldnt worry they just need time to adjust to a new home. i have changed my chams cage 3 times and each time they stress out for a day or two.

I really appreciate everyones help you guys are awsome. should i worry about the temp dropping below 70 in the cage tonight or will it be ok? BTW he goes white when he sleeps is this normal?

This is my new baby veil Cham i just got him home a few hours ago... Ok i know i was told to get a mesh cage but freaking petco sold the one i had on hold i could have smacked the lady. So i had to get the glass terain one with the mesh at the top for now i will be looking for the right one as soon as possible. He (which i think is a she) seems to be doing ok. when i got him home i had a little scare lol i opened the box he was in and he was white i beleive he was asleep when i picked him up he went green with some stripes. He stays a lime green color most of the time but he has been going brown latley(is that ok?) they said they were feeding him 10-15 crickets a day and they were taking him out and putting him in a container because he couldn't catch the food? well i found that my enclosure is a great cricket hider lol so i took him out and put him in something smaller to feed but he only ate one cricket I am also wondering about temp i would say he is only about 2 months old and his body is about maybe 3 inches i have him in a 24x18x12 set up right now but the temp only really goes up to 75 is this to cold for him?. i am attaching pics for you all to see let me know what u think about him/her lol.

seems stressed out.. but as soon as you get him the screen cage, she should mellow out.

Yes a heat source is needed a temp in the basking spot needs to be around 86 degrees for a young one. Making sure no contact with the bulb. Some people just use 75 watt house bulbs that they lay right on top in a fixture. I perfer to use speciality spot lamps that also produce UVA but keep them from a safe distance and basking spot at a constant temp.

Supliments:

Alot of people use three types of RepCal on a schedule. Dusting a portion and some dust all of their feed. I dust about 1/3 of her daily intake.

Mon & Thurs - RepCal Herptivite Multi-Vitiamin with Beta Carotene (blue label)
Tues & Friday - RepCal Calcium with D3 fine power (pink label)
Wed & Saturday - Repcal Calcium no D3 (green label)
Sun - Nothing....

You say you got a Flukers? I would assume this is their digital all in one about the size of a candy bar (lil smaller) right? That is great for enviorment temp reading you will want to place in the cool area of your enclosure. A probe digital would be good to have to mesure the temp in the basking spot. ExoTerra makes a nice one for a great price.

Yes in most cases brown is okay but yes it can also mean health issues. However a chameleon will change colors for many differnt reasons so color and length of time is a better way to spot illness rather then seeing them brown and think bad.. Victoria always turns brown when she shoots across her vines to attack a cricket across her enclosure. Turns brown and dark green when ready to ambush a cricket. Turns very bright green and yellow when I offer her a daily worms dusted. But these colors have no real pattern between differnt owners and their chameleons. Watching them hunt, bask or cool off is how you will tell on your own how she displays her colors.

well whatever the sex of your cham ends up i wish u the best of luck and spend an hour a day on here. i absolutely love this site, and it was probably the smartest thing i did. lol I had a chameleon for a year before i used this site. i learned the little i know from books and online caresheets, and this those were not enough.Their are some very smart people on here and just listen to your senior members.
