I’m really worried about Rexy…

I took Rexy to the vet two weeks ago after noticing he/she wasn’t eating. I took a stool sample and they also got X-rays. I was told the stool was negative for parasites and X-ray showed bone mineralization was good- the only thing they saw was that Rexy was constipated. I’ve tried to offer silk worms and horn worms to help with hydration, I’ve done soaks like the Vet told me to do. I’ve seen Rexy drinks little but the eyes are sunken in and poop looks like there’s some blood in it. I’ve also found Rexy at the very bottom of the enclosure a couple of times. I’m scared and feel so lost on what to do.

Can you post a photo of the heels of the chameleon. Veileds can be sexed by looking there to see if they have tarsal spurs or not. Males have them...females don't.

How old is Rexy?

That does look like blood in her poo…unless you’ve been feeding her anything like raspberries, blueberries or similar. Have you made the few husbandry changes yet that were suggested? I’m going to look back more carefully at your prior posts…maybe we all missed something. Anytime blood is coming from anywhere not expected, it is cause for a vet visit.

Ok, looking at your other thread https://www.chameleonforums.com/thr...ating-much-anymore.188005/page-2#post-1741733 the pic you posted of Roxy’s poo after a soak actually looks like it has some pink in it. Are these the only poos that Rexy has done recently? What did her poops look like before all of this started and when you first got her? Were they a nice brown color and of larger size? Did she ever have artificial plants or moss, wood chips/bark or anything like that in her enclosure? I also think trying a vet that has more experience with chameleons is a good idea. Not sure how much of a drive these would be, but would be worth it.

@MissSkittles I am still trying to find something to raise the enclosure onto, to make it higher. I have purchased a new thermometer and hygrometer system to more accurately measure the temp in basking area, lower in the enclosure and the hygrometer in the center. They’re on timers now so there’s more of a set schedule. That was just purchased today. I have also put the background on a week ago, it covers 3 sides of the enclosure. I added a lay bin at the bottom of the the enclosure and put two of the plants on there as well. I also raised the heat lamp up off of the top of the enclosure and got a larger High output UVB bar.

As far as the poo, Rexy has has a couple that didn’t have much pink or red to it- they were small. Her poops before looked more solid and lighter brown. When we first brought her home at the end of June, we did have bark at the bottom and fake moss in there, but after more research we quick pulled it out and realized that 90% of what Petco tells you to get, is not actually good. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Her sunken in eyes are really scaring the crap out of me. I feel so helpless as what I need to be doing to get this sweet little Cham back to better health. 🥺

Do you have copies of the X-rays?
How did the vet determine it was constipation?
@kinyonga yes I do.. they said they saw some issue that looked like constipation in the X-ray. I can’t remember the exact verbiage used.

My thought was that maybe she has ingested part of a fake plant or other material that is either partially obstructing her or has somehow injured her digestive system. Regardless, a visit to a good vet is the best action to take.

I'm suspecting it's a blockage too...but I can't read the X-rays well enough to know in this case. I haven't got a lot of experience reading X-rays for things like that.

Good luck with the vet.

It’s an awful feeling when any of our critter babies aren’t well. Do try one of the vets on the list. I really doubt the vet you went to before has much experience with chameleons, which is what Rexy really needs. I’ll be saying prayers for sweet Rexy and you. 🙏💗
@MissSkittles thank you so much. I’m at Edwards Air Force base in California, I think the ones on the list are too far from me. I’ll take a look again but it looked like a lot were in LA and that’s a couple hours or so from me.
