Hello,
I am having some difficulty maintaining a good humidity level in my chameleon enclosure. It is 2.5 ft x 2.5 t x 5 ft. I have a homemade dripper (1 drip per second), UVB and Heat Lamp, a small humidifier and a repti-fogger. Temperature stays between 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit. The sides of the enclosure are 1 inch mesh. All group plants are live, artificial vines up-top.
Chuck is 8-9 months old, eats well, has had no issues shedding. However he generally remains a brown color and not his bright green that he usually demonstrates when sleeping. The only thing I could think of as a cause is the trouble I have finding a "happy medium" with his humidity levels. I initially started out maintaining 60-70% humidity however I had read that he would require closer to 80%. I found that he would run to the side of the enclosure furthest from the humidity source and turn black. Since that time I have brought the humidity level down to about 30-40% and he seemed happier, often green for the past week. However he is appearing dull and brown again and thinner than normal. He is still eating about 5-8 crickets a day but has always shown very little interest in food.
Any recommendations for humidity levels, or other ideas about what is going on? Is this normal age-related behavior?
