How to keep heat source off of chameleon enclosure.

You can lift it with wood blocks or I use rocks for one of my lights. You can also hang it. I have have shelf above my cage where I put his stuff. I have a plant screw under the shelf & hang my basking light from it.

I use these pre cut screens at lowe's. I also use screen frames that I cut and glue / silicone to the top of my cages this always protects from heavy stuff. Just a few ideas to throw out there.

Just joking when I say this--- would hate to have me on your hit list. :)

What do you put your coffee in? Gold fish bowl? hee hee hee

My thoughts on the issue----of what to put on top..

1. protect the screen from damage.
2. get the proper heat where you want it without much change.
3. protect and get proper heat without making multiple changes over time.
4. Make the issue more permanent and durable, so it is never an issue again.
All that allows someone to upgrade and worry about other issues and not the same one over and over.

I almost always work backwards when doing a set up of any kind.

1. Do I have time to care properly for an animal.
2. Can I get all the foods and necessary items it will need to include medications if problems happen.
3. How will I keep it clean? filters, humidity, watering/dripping/fogging etc.. Put all that on a schedule. Monday is glass cleaning, calcium d3 on 1st and 15. like that.
4. I ponder for a few weeks and then make the commitment (long-term). I do break this rule if something hard to get pops up or becomes available. :)

Yes, I tend to over think stuff but never have to address screen care again because they are double protected. and coffee cups used for coffee and watering plants if it is close to water source. (y)

Plus, with the wrong watt bulb it can do damage to the original top by burning or melting. The aluminum disperses heat and keep the hot away from the less protected areas and there is no extra weight on the screen since the screen or screen frame are strong enough to hold most top equipment.

Guess I drank too much cappuccino this morning. thanks for your time.

I am a visual learner so pics are important.. Thanks MissSkittles (y)
Those are great for all kinds of enclosures, I use those for shorter setups. but I am cheap and 25 to 45 bucks is a new animal for me....haha
Below cost 3 to 5 bucks and can be cut or bent to size.
Just took these to help visualize.
The screen frames are outside and I add some sand and coconut bark only for me (like how it looks).

I use the clamps, I really like them because you can tilt them and give your Cham a varied heat source if that makes sense. Instead of directly having the heat source in one spot.

My older Cham uses it to his advantage, I see him basking at different spots of his basking branch throughput the day.

oppps! Forgot this kind on toad tank. It uses sticky pad on glass.
I change bulbs depending on local temps... So do not need heat during these months.

Thanks! Yellow Spotted Climbing Toad-- I have 2 pair and the males don't look so pretty but are very vocal and will rahhh rahhh when we respond. So, I purchased for the colors of the female but the males (no bluish tint) vocals became the treasure as everyone we talk to on a phone (causes them to respond) gets to hear them communicate. Very comical.

Male shedding--- frogs and toads eat their skin when shedding. yumm yumm

Can you show me some pictures ? I may just buy a stand to hang it is it okay to have uvb close to the screen cage as well?

I use these https://www.amazon.com/Exo-Terra-Ho...exo+terra+light+bracket&qid=1632149039&sr=8-5

I take the mounting plate and drill holes in it to line up with my frame on the cage. Get 1/4 inch self tapping screws. Then mount the plate. You can use the hanging fixtures or the clamp lamp fixtures. I prefer the clamp lamp fixtures so I can angle my heat lamp. Also they do not give you much of a bar length to work with so trying to use the hanging one means your stuck in a very small area of the cage. If you want your lamp angled more down you just pull up on the bar and tighted the screw back down. I lift mine four inches off the top.

Thank you so much I appreciate this because mine can’t hang so I wasn’t sure how to use it! So I appreciate this!

Sure. :)
Probably not the best pic but I hope it plants a better idea lol.
Also yes some people have the uvb sitting on top of the screen. But uvb needs to be 8-9 inches there highest branch. & indont have the biggest cage yet. So I lift my uvb.

I use different methods depending on the enclosure/application.
I use a lot of clamp lights, but I also use wooden blocks or even simple wooden frames.
Most of my (chameleon) lights are less than an inch from the screen, but I can keep the back of my hand on the screen indefinitely, so no burn potential. Basking light is a little higher because it's in a clamp light fixture—easy to aim.

Most of what I've done can be found here:
