Ive had my veiled chameleon for about a month. hes about 3 or 4 months old. ive been trying to hand feed him for awhile, and everytime i present him with food he always scurrys away. any tips??

I finally got mine to hand feed. I made a "cricket feeder" out of a large bottle. I cut away the front and the bottom, and put screen mesh in the bottom and on the back so the crickets would climb. The crickets are not smart and don't get out. I fixed it in place and then I fed him there every single day for a month, around the same time, so now he goes to his spot and waits for the food. Then, instead of dropping the crickets in the feeder, I just held them near the feeder and he grabs them! After doing that for a while, he'll take them wherever I'm holding them as long as my hand doesn't go above him. This is just one idea.

Figure out which type of feeder your chameleon seems to like the best! Then take that feeder and approach the cham very slowly. It's usually better to be as low as possible. At first my guy was hesitant to eat anything out of my hands... Found out he really just despised the butterworms I had been trying to get him to eat. My guy is strange though he's super addicted to crickets! Just don't scare the cham when you're shoving the bug in his face and they won't resist!

Don't feed him for a day then be patient and hold it there he will get it. By the way it's not mean not to feed them for a day because in the wild they can go a day without finding something to eat , only try it with one over 5-6 months because younger ones should eat every day.

I got mine to eat from my hand also, so far only twice. Try not to handle him or scare him every time he sees your hand. But only stick your hand in his cage when you feed him, so he knows every time he sees your hand, he knows it's feeding time. Just work your way from there.
