How old is my veiled?

Any guesses on how old Merlin could be? He looks pretty large to me, but his casque seems quite small compared to the pictures I'm finding of other makes his size

Please provide more photos of him and him in his enclosure. When did you buy him, and at what estimated age?

I've added 4-5 vines since I took these pictures as well. I got him about a week ago as a "juvenile". I don't have a ton of photos since I've been trying not to bother him. The majority I do have came from his previous owner so they're not wonderful as well but I'll add the best ones I have.

Age can totally depend on nutrition, so he could be from 6 months to a year, but again, it depends on his past husbandry.

Does he look healthy? This is my first Cham and he looks very skinny to me but I'm comparing to my leopard geckos who obviously carry their fat a bit differently lol.

It can also depend on the health of the mother at birth, or who his father was. Chameleon owners do not usually know what the status of their chameleon's parents were unless the owner was the breeder.

Your chameleon does look healthy, with nice bright colors. I don't see any signs of MBD, which is very good. Since we are not sure of his age, I cannot really give an accurate opinion of his casque, but I think it does look a bit small. But I don't know, I could be wrong.

That's wonderful to hear, the friend I got him from is not a reptile person so I was concerned he might not be very healthy. Great to hear he looks good to some more experienced people as well.

Are you houseing him in a glass cage? I saw the glass and got worried because if it’s not a mesh cage they will get rispitory problems and possibly die. I saw the mesh cage too but I thought that might be the other owners

Glass cages CAN be used. Remember, for the longest time Mesh tanks weren't even available. I've known some people who have used an old 20 gallon or larger tank and just placed it on its side so it can stand tall.

It all comes down to how well you maintain humidity. Glass does not equal automatic RI and death... Managing humidity and making sure everything is right does.

I'm noticing in the big screen enclosure (which I prefer over glass any day) that there is no UV bulb. Do you have one? In case you don't, it is absolutely necessary!

My lamp is UVA which I thought was the same/equal to UVB but if not I'll go buy one in the morning, he's in the mesh cage now. The glass tank was the one I got him in.

It has to be the bar type. The bulbs have been known to cause eye problems like blindness and they also don't cover as much area so the chameleon does not get adequte UVB from the bulb style.

At any reptile shop or online. They are very very easy to find. Even petsmart or petco
Can you provide a link? I have the exoterra xl (24 inches) and I can't seem to find any supplies for it at the pet store. I can't seem to find the hood on Amazon either

Lacking UVB for a short amount of time shouldn't cause him extreme harm. I believe it's more of a long term essential, such that prolonged absence of
UVB will lead to serious health issues and death. I guarantee your local shop will have what you need! These are two of the most basic reptile supplies and if they don't have them something is wrong ;)
