How often do they go to the bathroom?

Let's say if all cage requirements are perfect and temps and etc are as they should be how often should an adult 7-8 month old veiled chameleons poop? Also, what can cause them not to poop as much or as often?

I'm very sorry for being vague, it's just a question I was wondering about.

When my veiled was that old, maybe everyday to every other day, depending on the amount of food, and what kind it was.

I Agree. My Veileds were pretty regular.

Not having proper basking temps will slow digestion. The heat is critical to this process to occur properly.

Monday - Calcium, 5 Crickets
Tuesday - NONE
Wednesday - Calcium, 5 Crickets
Thursday - NONE
Friday - Calcium, 5 Crickets
Saturday - NONE
Sunday - Calcium w/D3, 5 Crickets

For my friends adult Male Veiled she feeds him 5 crickets every other day. But, For the past month here little guys poops about once a week! I'm don't think that's quite normal. What can cause this type of behavior?

* Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule? Sticky Tounge Farms - Miner-all, once a week and repti cal
* Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking? - mist 2xs / day,ice cube in a large styrofoam cup from the top of the enclosure to provide drips
* Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? Fecal matter is brown and urates at time can be a little yellowish but for the most part a white.
* History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you. N/A

* Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions? Screen cage 18x18x36
* Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule? Zilla Slimline 20in' Florecent UVB bulb, 1x 75watt incandescent house bulb
* Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps? Ambient daytime room temp 73-78, night 69-71, enclosure hot side 85-88, cool side approx 80 depending on room temps.
* Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity? mist 2x's/day
* Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind? None at the moment. Was using Pothos plants but had been removed some time ago.
* Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? In the basement, No traffic at all, cage in 3 feet above the ground.
* Location - Where are you geographically located? Chicago, IL

Current Problem - Not going to the bathroom often. once a week or even at time longer..

I don't know if this is causing it, but he isn't getting enough to eat. At that age, my veiled was eating maybe 12-15 crickets every other day, with maybe 5-10 the days in between. Also, sometimes I would put some superworms in for the 5-10 days.

I just received more detailed information.

Here is another curve ball to add as well. Sometimes her chameleon does not always eat all 5 crickets in the first day and he may or may not eat all them during the "by day" in the schedule. There may be 1 or even two crickets left in the cage during the next feeding. So it looks like not only is the little guy not going ot the bathroom often but he has a very light appetite. Could the lack of proper heat/basking temps be causing this?

When my Veiled was this age, that is the feeding schedule I followed. I'm not trying to deny the correctness of their opinions or say mine is better than theirs, but it worked for me, but I'm no expert. Also, noting this, I don't do this now, so don't have problems with obesity with my chams. When chameleons are small, they are growing, quiet fast. So, with proper food amounts and heat, and other things, we can maximize this. One thing I did while taking care of a juvinile, is switch feeders in the "off" days. So, crickets one day, silkworms the next, crickets, then superworms, etc.

While caring for all of the veileds I have taken care of, this has made their growth explode, but still at a healthy way. Also, once Colt (Veiled I have now) reached about 10 months of age, I slowly started decreasing the amount of food he ate during the week.

Now, he is around 1 year and a half, and eats about 10-12 crickets three times a week. But, like I said, I'm no expert, but I do know that it should be eating more.

I think that's closer to the diet of a chameleon that is near to full grown. 2-5 bugs every other or every third day for an adult. I personally feed my adults almost daily, but lesser quantity at a time than those that dont feed daily. I feed those that are growing quickly, those that are less than a year old, more quantity that an adult.

Pooping weekly doesnt seem a sign of concern. Is the chameleon still growing, weight increasing? Does the fecal matter and urate look right when it does go?

Does this friends chameleon only get crickets? if so, that's something that could be improved.

Is the chameleon drinking well? are the crickets (and other bugs) well hydrated? well gutloaded (you dont say what they are fed)

I think that's closer to the diet of a chameleon that is near to full grown. 2-5 bugs every other or every third day for an adult. I personally feed my adults almost daily, but lesser quantity at a time than those that dont feed daily. I feed those that are growing quickly, those that are less than a year old, more quantity that an adult.

Since she has owned the Chameleon for over 4 months now he has grown a bit since she first brought him in. His main diet consist of crickets, superworms, and the occasional mealworm. Eat insect is gutloaded with a variety of leafy greens such as spinach, Roman lettuce, celery, mustard greens, oranges and carrots.
