ok so my baby 2.5 month old panther hadn't eaten live food in 15 days, had to treat with oxbow carnivore care. i still offer all types of bugs but he wont eat any, but finally 2 days ago i put a wax worm infront of his mouth and he snatched it, shook it like a dog with a bone and gulped it, this is the 3rd day in a row he has eaten 1 small wax worm.

i know wax worms are like crack and have no nutritional value, but it's the only live thing he will eat. i can put any other bug infront of him and he just stares, or walks away. how many is too many wax worms??

Like I said with another member, you just need to keep giving him what he needs. He is testing you to see if you will give him what he wants. It may take up to a week, but he will learn that this is his only option for food. Once he's back on track, slowly introduce an occasional waxworm, like once a week, then move up to two a week, etc. Your cham has a worm addiction, which usually occurs with mealworms, superworms, hornworms, and waxworms. Really waxworms should not be fed at all. 2-3 a week max. Not only do they have no nutrients, but they are very high in fat as well. They can be used as rewards, such as if he comes out on your hand or something.

i dont think he ahs an addiction... he's never ahd 1 before till 2 days ago.. only crickets and wingless fruit flies.. he stopped eaating and got really bad 2 weeks ago, hasn't eaten since have to feed him oxbow carnivore care witha syringe. and he's practically skin and bones from not eating real solid food for 2 weeks.. he could prob use some fat content

If that's all he'll eat, it's an addiction. And just cause he's skinny doesn't mean he needs fat... That's good for pregnant females in SOME cases but not here. You just need to make him realize what he needs to eat.

have you filled out the ask for help form? A panther that age should be consuming about 20 feeders a day. There is something not right if he has no appetite.

There can be a variety of reasons your cham isn't eating, if you fill out the how to ask for help form you will receive useful feedback that may help your cham! Sometimes if temperatures are too low or if you little buddy is having a trouble with a shed and even hydration can play a roll in whether or not a cham is eating.

yeah i have filled out a form, and i've seen 2 vets.. he just wont eat, to the point he looked like he was about to die. they gave him an iv shot, and the carnivore care. both didnt know why he wasnt eating, temps, humidity are fine, nothing changed in his cage or anything. the 1 vet who has 4 chameleons himself told me other than the not eating he looked fine, bones, eyes, color, etc..... he is improving slightly every day. and now he's finally eaten a couple wax worms. so we'll see where we go from there
