How many times?

I hope some of you with breeding experience will be able to assist me with this question.......

My ambilobe pair were bred on December 23. My female laid 38 eggs on Januauary 31, then her second clutch of 29 eggs on April 1. A few days ago, she started showing gravid colors again. Will this clutch be infertile, or could she still lay a third fertile clutch from the mating in December? How many fertile clutches typically come from one mating? How will I know if the eggs are fertile or not? I thought she was going to take a break for awhile, but I guess not!

You could always keep them and see if they mold over or not. Sorry i cant answer your question.

Chams can have up to 3 clutches from one mating, but the later clutch(es) often aren't all fertile and if they are, the babies may not be very hardy. If I remember correctly, I believe that Jannb's Camille had 3 clutches from mating with Luie, but only one baby from the last clutch survived to be an adult, and she had a lot of health problems before she passed. (RIP Elly & Camille)

Chams typically have 2 clutches, with most if not all eggs being fertile.

Sometimes, they can lay a third clutch, though the number of fertile eggs goes down significantly.

Looks like you got your answer. To restate what others said, a second clutch is often fertile and sometimes the third clutch is as well but usually it is less so than the first two. Sometimes the second clutch has a lesser likelihood of being fertile but not always.

I have had 4 clutches be fertile from the first pairing. So the best thing to do is always set the eggs up to hatch if they are infertil they will mold over...

Ok, thank you all. So, if I don't put her with my male again, will she continue to lay infertile eggs every 6-8 weeks or so? I knew they laid infertile eggs, I just didn't realize it was so frequently.

She could very well slow down, especially if you cut back on the feeding and temps.
