How many roaches should I start with?

I'm new to chameleons but I have a full grown veiled male. He is eating mainly crickets right now but I want to start a Dubia colony. My problem is he eats about 20 medium to large crickets a feeding. I don't want him to tear through a whole colony before it has a chance to get started. So how many should I start with?

500 to start, and you should never have to buy Dubia's again. Make sure to get mixed sizes, so you can figure out which size works best for feeding off.

What Steve said But some of us are stupid and start with 1200

500 if you want to start feeding right away. Less if you dont mind waiting for a while before having them breed enough to feed from regularly.

i just ordered 500 mixed with some adult breeders. I might order another 500. Overkill?

I started with 100 mixed and had enough to feed from in two months some years ago. 500 is plenty!
