; How Many inches should your chameleon be before u put him into 24x24x48 cage? I have purchased the cage and I would dread having to purchase and set up another cage. I am looking at pet stores and they seem to b guessing at the ages. They seem to look healthy, change colors and like to crawl right up your arm when u put your arm in the cage. I have seen them from anywhere between 2 inches and 4 inches. I cannot find a local breeder near me. Mid-Michigan area.

If your baby is tiny you could put in a partition in your cage. The problem is the ability for your Cham to catch its food. If it is cup fed that is half the battle. Males are larger than females, different breeds are different sizes. Popeye was between 3-4 months but looked very small but managed ok. He is a male panther.:)

You might want to keep him in like a 10 gallon tank at first. easier to control heat and temp and its also easier for him to hunt in a smaller environment.

When I get the cage set up would it be OK to put box up high and watch to make sure he eats. The one who is really friendly and crawls up onto anyone's arm what about me setting him in the bottom of the cage?

my 3 year old Female is in a 2X2X4 foot cage and she's between 7-9 inches give or take. She was tickled to move up from a 18X18X24 cage.

They can go into the adult cage whenever you want.

If you feel its too much space for a smaller baby, then divide the cage, or put a small plant table in it, so te plant sits on it andthe baby will hang out on the plant.

as he gets older, you can give him more space.

as for that 10 gallon tank remark. no. not enogh ventilation, and too hard to regulate temperature.it holds moisture to well, and can lead to a respiratory infection.

better to use a baby cage then the adult cage, than risk the health with a FISH tank.

Like others have said, you can generally put them in an adult cage at any time as long as you can make sure they can get enough food, water, UVB, and heat. Some babies are very good at hunting and have no problems with large cages, other babies are not so good in big cages. You can always partition the cage or turn it on it's side so there is less height for the baby. Just make sure it eats well and gets enough UVB/heat.
