How many can live together?

Hello. I have 13 jacksons, 1 9-month male (his own cage 12x24x24), 1 one-year-old saved female, not knowing she was pregnant (her own cage 12x18x18), and 11 two-day old babies (housed in a 12x18x18 cage). Now that we have these new additions, I'm not sure how to house them all. They all have the aluminum cages. I was thinking of building a large enclosure, but wasn't sure how many could live together. They all live outside, being I live mountainside Hawaii and the environment is perfect for them. I was thinking of a 5 ft x 5 ft x 3 ft enclosure. Any help would be appreciated!

Wassup and welcome...

Most of the people here will you will recommend to keep you female away from your male for awhile since she just gave birth.

your babies from what I have been told can be kept in an big plastic container without the lid. the kind of container that they store clothes in with branches or perch material. I think up to two months...then it would be better to start splitting up the males and females. after that they will need to etch out their own space.

Jacksons are fairly solitary animals getting together for mating purposes only so even the size of habitat that you planning will be too small.

There are some members here who free range their pets but I don't know how.

Hope that helps...

Thank you opihiman. I'm not sure what to do with all of these little guys after they get bigger. I knew that they prefer to live alone, but I can't have 13 individual containers. My adult male we have had since he was 2 months old, and is pretty much domesticated. My female was wild, and I picked her up from the pet shop, looking as stressed and black as she could be (she has only been with us for two months). We have about an acre in our back yard, half of it forest. I was also thinking of blocking off an area in the back where we can have these guys in a free range kind of area, but wasn't sure how large on an area to cage or contain, and how many could possibly live there with the least amount of stress...Mahalo (Thank you)!

I just notice you have a WC female...even more so, it might not be a good idea to house together. She may have parasites.. couple of things you can do. Have her feces checked by vet. Or just wait and watch. At least a couple of months before you put together. Also if don't want more babies better to keep apart.

As far as you babies. Koolau pets sells Chams and may be willing to take some off your hands. (They also have a very good selection of Cham care stuff). the other place that may take a couple would be " pets and plants" in Waimalu. Most place will probably only take them after 4 to 6 mos old.

Thank you. I was thinking of the Enchanted Lakes Pet store and asking them next time I'm in there (which is twice a week). I just want what's the best for these little guys. Thank God I didn't get mean responses like that other guy. Poor thing!

better to ask than not...I hope that other guy come back. though.

:D Have fun with CHAMS
