How long to leave UVB on?

How long should the UVB/UVA light be kept on daily? I heard 12hrs on and 12hrs off but I want another opinion. Does it matter on the age of the cham? I will be buying a baby veiled soon and I have an 8.0 light. Thanks!

12 on 12 off is correct. I will sort of follow the sun so in the winter months they are only on for 10-11hrs and in the summer 13-14hrs, But you cant go wrong with 12 and 12. With a baby you are just going to want to watch the temps alot closer as they can overheat much easier.

I will agree with Hoj, and I would say an 8.0 is too high. Go with a 5.0 ONLY UVB. The basking is all the UVA he needs. 12 hours on, 12 hours off. :)

In winter my cham lights are on from 8-10 hours a day, in summer 12.
I've used 8.0 with no issues on adults, but for babies its better to use a 5.0 that's a couple months old. So you might want to let your 8.0 burn for a week (constant) at least before using it on your new baby cham and make sure there's lots of folliage so it can get out of the UV if it wants
and I agree about watching temps - little ones do dehydrate fast

I personally would use an 8.0 especially if above screen as only about 5.0 will get through it. I personally use 10.0 from newborns upwards.

Thanks for the help. It sounds like this topic just depends on personal opinions and experience
