How I got my little one

I was looking around craigslist and saw that someone was selling a baby chameleon cage and all. Ive always wanted one of these guys but never really had the money for one untill recently. So I text the guy asking him about her and he said that if I bought her that night that he would bring her to me. Obviously I couldnt say no. So he came and brought her to me. He had her in a 10 gallon fish tank with tiny rocks at the bottom (like what youd put in the bottom of your fishes tank) and had a few leaves and branches and fish tank plants. And one small broken heat lamp. He told me that it was a male chameleon. And me not knowing a whole lot about them believed him. But I found out otherwise after researching them. And I figure shes about 5 or 6 months old. She was in poor shape though. Her poor little ribs swas showing really bad and she was so tiny. But now that I have her, I went out and bought her a screened cage (much bigger and more ventilated then a tiny 10 gallon glass tank) and already shes getting bigger! Its only been about 2 weeks but im in love with her! I already love them so much I ordered a little 3 month old turquoise/sunburst male that is suppose to arrive tomorrow morning! I cant wait to get him! But I am so happy I decided to get her. If I didnt I dont know if she would have survived what this kid was doing to her. Poor little girl.
I still cant make up my mind what to name her! If anyone has any suggestions please tell me :)
Oh and ill need names for my little boy im about to get too :D

Welcome to Chameleon Forums! Please fill out the 'How to Ask For Help' form so we can see what your set up is like and how you are supplementing/feeding her, etc.

Chameleon Info:

* Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
* Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
* Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
* Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
* Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
* Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
* History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:

* Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?

* Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
* Location - Where are you geographically located?

Of course you know you will need another screen cage for your new little male?

Of course! Already one steap ahead of you :D
I went out day before yesterday before even oredering him and I got him a cage, branches, vines,... I came a bit more prepared for him then my little female. But shes happy in her new roomy home!

If she is actually 5 or 6 months old, and she has had stunted growth due to being malnourished or improperly supplemented, and truly has been mal-cared for, I would certainly reconsider breeding her. Early proper care is essential for a good breeding female.

I dont think shes had stunted growth, her belly was tiny and skinny. But I was wondering if I should breed her or not. I havnt really made up my mind or not. I was thinking about getting another female depending on how well my male goes.
I mean my female is growing so fast! Im so proud of her :D
Im sure you have more experience though, so im gonna go by you guys whether or not she could be a good breeder or not. Her general size didnt seem bad, she was just skinny. No stunted growth that I could tell. She still moved well on her own and always eats good. But where she was going with that kid wasnt nowhere good at all for her :(. Im glad I got her when I did before she did get bad.

Make sure not to feed her too much or she may begin to make eggs.

EDIT: make sure you have a laying bin too!

I'd hold off on breeding until you see how she does past one year of age. She had a rough start (possible deficiencies and poor bone formation), you know nothing about her bloodlines (inbred, abnormalities you can't see, etc), and actually, there's no real reason to breed to enjoy your chams. You could lose her to egg binding or other problems if she wasn't completely healthy from the start. No one says you are required to breed. I'm glad she found you though!

What do u have for lights heat humidity food all very important things to talk about when ever someone mentions these things you kinda skip to a diiffrent topic about them and you said u went out and got things for them like what? What do u got for Flooring and how big of cage howmany u plan on keeping in one cage?
