How do you clean sand for the laying bin?

I have to get my laying bin ready tonight and I couldn't find info on how to clean the new play sand, but I know it needs to be cleaned... Will it be a problem if I out the bin in a little early?(she was mated on 9-20 but hasn't gotten much bigger yet but she is naturally a huge for a female panther)

Thanks,
Dustin

I know some people who always have a bin in. It's better to have a bin in early than late!

if you bought playsand it is "Washed". Should say so on the bag. No need to clean dirt. :D

I leave a laying bin in at all times.

Yes you can put the bin in well in advance (cover it when not in use to keep excess water and her poop out of it, if you leave it for a long time). You can poor boiling water over the sand and bake the sand in the oven, if you want it to be extra clean. If its washed sand such as that meant for childrens play, dont bother. Once its been used a few times, especially if its been damp and warm in the cage for a long while, then clean it (or replace it).

Providing it has been treated like dirt, it is just fine. Sorry, but some notion that the dirt cannot be as dirt baffles me. While you do not want a septic situation, as it can infect the female, I think normal dirt, or anything like it, is far from that. Good luck.
