How do I take my cham/beardy to the vet?

How do I transport my 5-6mo cham and bearded dragon to the vet without causing much stress?
I have a petsmart box (that the cham came in, no I didn't get him from petsmart thank goodness) that's clean,
and a 10 gallon aquarium.. not much else.

I use shoes boxes. They are dark and will go to sleep

I have no experience with beardies. With chams, I give them something to hold onto (a branch, a plant) and tote them on that. I have put cham on a plant in a bucket or box (with plant anchored so it won't move around), and seatbelted bucket in the passenger side. (S)he won't be happy in a box without something to grip.

I've driven with a reptile so many times; it's pretty easy. When I would take my beardie to the vet I would put a heat pad wrapped in a towel in a box (either cardboard or an unused cricket holder) and set the beardie on that. Whenever I was on long drives he'd just go to sleep if it was dark. Covering them might help.

When I took my chameleon to the vet last week I just set him in the cup he came in (with air holes) with shreaded paper. If they have something to grip onto I think they feel better. I also just took the whole cage when I went home for Christmas break, and just covered it with a blanket (like a bird). He just went to sleep.

This is what has worked for me. I think with most animals they feel safer if they can't see.

Alright I will try to find a shoebox for the beardy and use the petsmart box for the cham. Will put down damp paper towels - do they need lots of air holes?

Damp? Why damp? Dry would be warmer and better.

Since they're small animals, they don't breathe as much air as we do. Just make sure the holes aren't so big they can crawl through. Maybe like 3-6?

It's VERY dry here in Arizona at the moment, and I don't have air conditioning in the car. Usually people who travel with animals either bring a water bottle or something to keep the heat down for them.

I have a friend who lives in Silverdale/Bremerton and tells me about it all the time.

what i did was just put a stick across the shoe box so he can grab that and put a clean towl in there. then i put the lid on and then wrapped the box with a towl and then put a rubberband around the box so it wont open. again im in illinois so i did need to keep it warm. i think you can put it in the shade of the car and have some windows open and just make sure he/she is well hydrated before the trip and that it isnt too far too. then hydrate him afterwards really good and i think he/she will be fine. good luck

Alright guys thanks - vet trip in less than 2 hours. Will do the shoebox stuff - got a 20 mile trip or so to get there. Bringing a spray bottle.
