how do i make temps warmer??!

hey guys. for the past few days it has been in the 60's here. since we dont have heating, our house has been very cold. it is also getting colder in my chameleons cage. the only warm spot is the basking spot. anywhere below is around 60 degrees.

can anyone give me any tips so my cham wont freeze to death??

I have read on here other will wrap the top of the cage with things like bubble wrap, linens, etc. Anything to keep the heat in. I suppose you will want to make sure the top is all covered to keep it from rising right out of the cage.

I always thought that if I ran into this problem I would buy a lil ceramic heater and set it on the lower part of the cage to keep it warmer down below.

I assuming you have heat in your house for the winter months?! I lived in Illinois and some of my family lives in Valpo so I know how cold it gets up there. What about a little space heater for the room? Also, have you thought about adding another dome light for additional heat and changin out the wattage of your basking bulbs so they will be higher. I have three lights in my cage, my uvb and then a 60 watt basking and also a 20 watt to brighten up the cage. Maybe 1/2 covering the cage with something to keep the heat in?

No offense, but i would never put the heater in the cage. i would think that could be a fire hazard with the plants, vines, branches, etc. Maybe right next to it would be more sensible. Just my opinion!

None taken, I should have been a little clearer. I wouldn't put it within the enclosure either, that just screams accident waiting to happen!

I use aluminum trays on top of the lights it reflects more light also but as suggested above just cover the top and you should be okay. I have heard of adding little fluorescent light to the top as well thats the lighting I use for my female. Ramp up your watts on your basking light to. I hope this helps.

If you have an all-screen cage, which doesnt retain heat well, covering the back and both sides with a towels, plastic or similar will help somewhat. But only during the day when the light is on.

You can get ceramic heat bulbs (emit no light) for night.

But a better idea is to just heat the room the chameleon is in. plug-in Oil-filled radiators are great for this. They are efficient, safe, dont reduce humidity. You can get them with built-in timers.

Since I dont heat my house when I am not around or when I am asleep, the house temperature gets quite cool at night in the winter. I use an oil rad to ensure my chameleon room doesnt go much below around 65F at night, or 70F in the day.

ok thanks for all the great responses:)

ill probably cover the sides as some of you said.:)
