How common are tongue injuries?

My chameleon got the tongs for the first time today. He's never hit tongs before but I just got new hornworms and they are pretty small. I figure that must be why he hit the tongs because he did it twice today. How worried do I need to be about a possible tongue injury and want are the earliest signs that there is one?

It's a he, I just have the one (for now...). Yeah he seems to be able to shoot it out just fine.

I do not ever tong feed. I only hand feed or cup feed. If they hit the tong wrong then you have to worry. if you react and pull back on the tong then you can create an injury that is much much worse.

If he's shooting ok then the tongue isn't likely injured.
