Hello,
How can you tell when the veiled Cham is stressed? Just out of curiosity.

Rango seems happy all the time. He LOVES to be held and will lunge for anyone walking by if we have the screen open ( i mean that in a good way he also does this if we are on the couch and he wants someone else holding him,he lunges to the next closest person LOL) or if i am holding him he sees my oldest kid, he will stand on hind legs and reach for her. From what i have read, they are not suppose to like people handling them that much.
The only time i have seen him go skinny and long looking is when he sleeps at night and for the first time yesterday when i had him out in the front yard to sun. I think the noises may have scared him but after about 10 mins he puffed back to normal and turned this bright teal, coral and yellow ( i wish i would have taken pictures it was amazing.

Now sometimes he does blow his stomach out to make it look like a ball and i am not sure what that means ( he seems content but it is weird almost like bloated looking) anyone have any ideas on what it means?

The one and only time he hissed at us was the very first day we found him and i put him in an enclosure and then tried to take him out that night. Since that first day he has never tried to bite, hiss or anything.

they will usually turn darker when they are stressed. and since your boy is a fully grown adult, he will display very bright intense colors when angry.
https://www.chameleonforums.com/first-fire-up-64623/ see my link here, the picture in it is when my veiled got very angry. notice how the yellow is very intense, and where the black spots are, are normally teal colored.

THey will bloat ou ttheir stomachs to seem bigger than they are, sort of like a , you dont want to mess with me, see how big and scary i am? lol
as for handling, I wouldnt handle him too overly much, even though it seems like he enjoys it. Some people (rare few) on here have very friendly chams, most of us dont. I am not saying dont handle ever, but chams are very good at hiding some signs of stress and illness until its almost too late.
Side note- chams are essentially deaf. while they can feel vibrations an such from intense sound waves, like a deep base. they cant hear it.

the way you are describing the stomach thing seems off to me. Can you post a picture?

To be truthful, he is probably only trying to get onto people because he doesn't like being caged.

Chameleons can hear a very limited amount of noise (if I remember correctly it is only very low frequency noises.)

He only did the stomach thing the one time in the 8 days we have had him. But i will try to get a pic if he does it again.

I guess i am just hopeful LOL he seems to want to be on people.Although there are times he wants his cage and will climb on it so we put him in.

thanks for the responses.

I totally understand! It's hard not to think of them like mammals. Who knows though!
