How can i use this to make a drainage system?

hi, i really want to make a drainage system for my cham cage, this is where the cage will go (see pic)

the cage also has a solid PVC base.

so give me some ideas!!

Hi, the easiest way to create a drainage system for the setup you have is to drill a hole in the bottom of the cage and line it up with a hole in the wooden structure. That said, you would probably need to have some tubing to run your drainage through the wood, in order to avoid having uncontrolled leaks that could damage the cabinet..

I agree with that.. You might want to water seal the wood before also.

Sometimes a wood cabinet isn't the best thing to use. I swapped from my wood cabinet to a metal.frame cabinet from target that was 15$. It fits my cage perfectly and I didn't have to drill holes in the cabinet.

I'm not saying don't use what you have, but I decided I didn't want to drill holes through a wood cabinet and risk a mold/mildew buildup in the holes.

Rather than drill small holes in the wooden stand, I would cut a good size hole, maybe 4 or 5 inches across (doesn't have to be round). Drill holes in the cage that are over the center of the hole in the stand. That way the water coming from the cage won't be close to the stand.

Ye this is a much better idea! i will be doing this! my only concern is that the water wont just drop out of the holes straight down, but run underneath the PVC . I might need to put something in the holes so the water can follow it down to a pint to run into the bucket?

Some people attach a funnel under the holes they drill, or use a piece of pvc and direct that into a bucket. There are a lot of methods, I looked through the enclosure part of the forum to get ideas for my setup.

You could do something as simple as running a line of caulk around each of the holes themselves or around the cluster of holes. Once the water starts going DOWN it's going to continue going down. I do think if you put something a little heavy in among the drain holes (a rock?) the bottom will be pushed down and that will encourage the water to follow gravity.
