homemade drip systems?

instead of getting one at the pet store, i was thinking about using a milk jug and poking a couple holes at the bottom and setting it above my cage, does anyone else have or have an idea for a home made drip system?

I show my auto drip system in the video. It works really well and has been running for almost 3 years now.

I have made drips like that in the past. One thing about them is they can either run too fast if you put too large of a hole in it, or it can sometimes cease to drip all together if you make the hole too small. If the hole is too small, it creates like a vacuum where no air can get in to allow for a flow. I used 2-liter drink bottles. I would put a hole in in the lowest point of one of the corners (you know how 2-liter bottles have the funny shape on the bottom) using a heated straight pin. I would gently move the pin around in a circle while it was still hot so that it was slightly larger than the pin itself. You want to be careful though, and not make it too big. Then I would make an extremely small hole about 2 inches from the top. This is the intake hole so that it can breathe. If I just left the top of the bottle off, it seemed to run out in no time. The cap placed tightly on the bottle with this small hole/big hole deal worked O.K. It would last about 1-2 hours befroe it would run out.

My husband made me one out of an old coffee can, the plastic kind. He went to Home depot and got a valve thing so it could be regulated. I know you can also get cheaper plastic ones at a pet store that sells fish supplies. Anyway, this way you can regulate your drip. Try using a plastic cup first and make a very tiny hole. You will be surprised at how fast it drips. Make sure that it drips into something at the bottom. I use a plastic tupperware type container with a screen clipped in place so my cham can't fall into the water or try to "walk on water". They are nosey things and will poop where they're curious.

will i still need something to catch it if i have it randomly going over the plant's leaves and i have a drainage system? (multiple holes on the bottom with repti carpet for substrate, cage is on metal rack above tote to catch water)
