Holiday travels

We have to go out of state for a few days to spend the holidays with my family. The dogs and cats are easy to care for since we trust our vet and her staff fully with them. Dexter, we really don't since they don't see reptiles. I talked with my mom, and she has no problem with us bringing Dexter along with us. I think she's used to me having lizards and things in my pockets from when I was a little boy so this really didn't phase her. :D

Now, we're looking into a travel cage for him, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? This is the one we're considering for now - it's compact but a size he'll fit in (He's an ~10 month old Jackson's).

I'll have to work something out with his lights, but it's only for 3-4 days.

Also, the car ride will be 6-7 hours. Are there any precautions we need to take with that also?

He's easy to care for at home, but we haven't taken him anywhere with us yet. Oh, we don't have any home pet sitters that deal with anything but cats and dogs either - tried that route. I think taking him with us is the best way to go (and I'd feel more comfortable doing that), and I hope someone can give us suggestions on traveling with your chameleon friend. :)

That cage should work fine. We keep a small traveling cage for both our chams, for going back and forth to the vet and all. Last summer, when we only had one cham, we took him on vacation with us. We bought a battery thing that you plug into the car cig. lighter and we could plug in his lights. The only problem we had was keeping the humidity up. We sit his cage on a couple of towels and kept misting him. He really seemed to enjoy the ride. He sit up big and tall and looked all around, out the window and all and a few times the sun came in on his side of the car and he loved it. Jann

You could try the explorarium or the flexarium, both work nicely, and you can also use it afterwards as a cage to put him outside in the nice sun

Great idea about the battery. The motion of the moving car probably felt like a plant when the wind blew through it. :)
