Holding my cham

hey guys! i was just curious, whats the best way to get your cham out of the cage? i know not to go in from the side but straight and slow but every time my hand gets close hes like AHHH IM OUTTA HERE and goes and hides haha i was just curious if i was doing something wrong?

He most likely thinks you're trying to eat him, he has no idea whether you're trying to handle him or end his life. I'd recommend hand feeding him so he can associate you with food.

my method is to hand feed them as often as possible..eleminate the feeling of threat when you come around..after gentile handling over time, you may end up with this...

open up the cage door and see if you can get him to crawl out maybe onto the door. Or put a large potted plant in front of the cage close enough where he can climb onto it and see if he might venture out of the cage that way. If you succeed in doing this, then try approaching him then.

get a pair of zoo-med tongs for feeding at a lil further distance..worked good for me to get the younger ones to go for food items..but sometimes they get addicted to the tongs and will only eat certain things if they are presented on the tongs, ha.

haha picky lil dudes! the problem i have with hand feeding is the crickets or worms always squirm around and i drop them is there a way you can grab them and present without them attacking you? haha xD

yes..since the crickets that are around latley are really aggressive (its a first for me to get bit by a cricket) but you have to hold then both back legs out straight back and fromt the back portion of the top of the back..then my chams can get a head first attack on them..for big horm worms i just use tongs..those things turn on a dime! lol

hahaha crazy little things and oh okay, so you hold them by their legs? and when i seem to do that (because they are still small ones) they literally jump out of their legs im like okay what the?? then yeah, BUT good news! i just held a mealie out to him (he loooooves mealies) and he took like a min to get the idea that it was for him but he got it out of my fingers! the thing was attacking me haha!

I laugh at myself every time I handle a worm..meal, super, horn..doesn't matter I hate the way they squirm...gives me the creeps..I think I shall invest in tongs! lol

Sayid is aggressive in his enclosure. Does not matter if I go slow under his belly, use a branch, or coach him on to my arm. I don't let him intimidate either, I think it is important to not let him "win"..but I never stress him out or force him out, if he starts showing signs (turning dark, playing dead leaf, or death dives) I just leave him alone.... I will come back later and try again...once he is out he is perfectly fine.

Mornings he is sweeter, when he is shedding, he's a jerk!
