My female veiled chameleon sometimes makes a hissing noise when i spray her, it sounds almost like a sneeze lol i have read that it could just be that shes annoyed when im spraying her,she is quite a grumpy chameleon she dosent like to be touched or even looked at in the wrong way lol my boy chameleon loves to come out and he lets me pet him hes very calm so do you think thats all it is or could there be something wrong with her??

Hi Stacey! It's nothing to worry about :) My female veiled does this too, often when misting but sometimes just when I've been gawping at her too long! lol :D

A couple thoughts. she hates being sprayed, she hate people, possibility of a problem. First two are just life with some chams. Make sure you have warm water, and spray about her so it falls like rain, A fine mist, not big drops. Second one - sorry, you just have to live with it.

Third possibility of a problem. Does she act the same when being sprayed as at other times, mort important, does she make noised when not being sprayed. If the noise if really just a hiss, she is most likely mad at you.

My chams don't like misting when the water is cold, so when I have time I put the mister in a pot with hot water for about 15 min. My girl Ripley would hiss if I spray her with cold water.

She also didn't like me much at the beginning. Folk here recommended me to ignore her, and it worked! I would feed her and instantly leave. No standing in front of her enclosure, no staring, no touching, just ignore. Perhaps she got offended and started wanting to come out.
Or you can trick her into walking on you. Give her a wax worm (or whatever her fav snack is), then show her another one and put it on your shoulder and let her walk on your arm. If she wants it bad enough, she'd come

I know she hates being sprayed but its gotta be done and i always use warm water my boy loves to be sprayed but chamelias just grumpy, she dosent hate people she eats off my hand realy close so she only has to flick her tongue out a ting bit its so cute:D she just dosent like to be handled, i can take her out but it takes about 20 minutes to get her out and shes fine when shes out but if i put her on a plant or something and then try and pick her back up she hisses at me and sometimes she does just hiss while shes sitting at the front of her tank but where she is temporarely she can see my bearded dragon across the room although she is higher than the bearded dragon could this be the problem??

I always use warm water for spraying but it has been colder where i live this week so it might be colder than usual,.she dosent mind me being near her and i sprayed a little shedding aid on her yesterday because theres a few white dots on her side left over from shedding and she let me rub it in:) she dosent usualy like me touching her! She does love wax worms ill have to give that a try:) i realy think shes just grumpy but she might come round eventually.

I think I would hiss to if someone sprayed me with cold water :D ;)

I dont spray her with cold water! But the water this week might have been abit colder than shes used to, but like i said my boy chameleon loves to be sprayed if hes hiding in his plants and i spray his tank he comes out to the front to get sprayed so i think its just the girl thats a weirdo haha

Right so chamelia is still making this noise and its getting more regular i think it might be a respitory infection!! I have read it can be cured(in the early stages) by increasing the heat and not spraying as much, should i give it a try or does she need to see a vet??

If it is an infection you will need to see a vet. A rise in temps can help fight the infection along with antibiotics but not on it's own, it is also reccomended to raise the night time temps by means of s ceramic heater or just to up the heating in the room. Reducing the water intake is not a good idea as her kidneys will need this water to help get her healthy again. If she does get antibiotics you will need to give her extra water to help get them through her system and processed properly.

Yup dry out after each misting and keep dry over night. However if chamelia starts breathing through the mouth get to the vet asap. They go down hill really fast (2-3 days tops) if it gets bad enough that they start "popping" through their mouth every couple of min.

Well chamelia has been doing this for around a week now and she also tilts her head back after she has ate .

If she makes a hiss type noise when breathing but not being misted, take her to a vet.

Otherwise, spray the leaves near her, not directly at her. And consider using a dripper for the majority of her water intake.

It is not unusual for chameleons not to want to be handled.

She isnt making the noise while shes breathing ill just be sitting there and ill here a short hiss but i dont see anything and she dosent have any mucus in her mouth ive checked and she dosent sit with her mouth open either and i havent heard her do it today atall im realy confused i dont know if thers something wrong with her or not.

I have raised the temperature of her basking spot to 83 and she has not made this noise since then i think she may have been to cold has anyone heard of chameleons doing this when there cold??

probably just hissing cuz she was annoyed

if she's not making hissing weird noises when she is breathing normally most of the time, its nothing to worry about

I doubt temp had much to do with it
