Hisser question for the roach people

I have a dubia colony, and they are doing well I guess, but for some reason I have been thinking about getting some hissers.

Is there an advantage to having hissers in addition to dubia other than variety? I imagine they have the same nutritional value, right? Is size (and hissing) the only difference in the two? Is it even considered a variety since they are so similar?

Any help you can offer is appreciated:)

Size Mainly, But The HisserS Take Soo Long To Reproduce, It Will Take A Year To Get A Good Colony Going.

Some differences:
Hissers babies are softer than dubia
Hissers climb glass
Hissers adults get too large to feed to most chameleons, but adults will be your breeders so this shouldn't be an issues.

I raise both as it provides variety. The babies are different looking so they count as different feeders in the eyes of a chameleon.

I say try Hissers out and see how it goes for you. Just remember, they will climb out of an uncovered or non-lubed container!

Never mind, the glass-climbing thing changed my mind! Thank you for pointing out the differences. Now I need to look for a better option!

Just put some bugstop or vaseline at the top. They won't go anywhere. Or buy a locking storage tub and do the same.

I have dubs and hissers. If the boys choose to each a roach that day, they don't care which one it is.

There's just something cool about the hissers. They look pretty neat and always scare the bejebus out of me when they hiss...

I dont like the spines on the larger hissers. They are really pokey, and I worry a little about when they are eaten. I got rid of mine because some escaped and I was finding them MONTHS (I even found one about a month ago and It escaped over a year ago! What the heck man?!) later all over my house. They didn't die within a week or two like all the other roaches I have had.

I keep both and I think it is well worth it. Having both offers greater variety - both in look, feel AND in nutrition (hissers will eat things with gusto that dubia will not hardly touch). Its not hard to keep hissers contained - just put a lid on the bin.
