His balls are showing?

Not sure what is going on with Waldo. He is a male 4 horned mountain cham. Not sure of his age but he is definitely an adult. Measures about a foot from head to tail.
Today for some reason he has two very gross looking things hanging out of his flap. Not sure what they are, but they look like testicles.
This has been going on for 3 hours now, doesn't seem to bother him. Should I be worried?
Thank you

No need to post multiple threads with the EXACT same thing. Take a picture and post it. Fill out the how to ask for help form. I'd keep it moist like most people do, it could be a prolapse.

post a pic but it sounds like a thing called called prolapse when their hemipeni hangs out. I am assuming that species has the same organs as all chameleons. yes, if it has been that long you should be worried as it can dry out. Please post a pic so we can be sure what you are talking about. If it is that you should put some ky jelly on the exposed part(I know, gross). I believe you can try soaking the cham in warm sugar water which is also a way to get the prolapse to go back in. Never had to do it, so if someone else can elaborate on that or correct me if I am wrong please. First lets make sure that is what it is. You may have to bring to a vet immediately to sew the private parts back in.

That is a prolapse. You need to keep it moist and do not let it dry out. You can use some ky jelly or some waterbase lube.

You can also try soaking his lower half in cold water with sugar mixed in.. Sometimes it will stimulate the male to pull his junk back in . The sugar in the water also helps to shrink the tissue.

It looks to be out pretty far the best thing would be to get him to a vet asap. They should be able to put it back in for you.

Also don't let him walk around in the cage like that. He may injure and tear his tissue on branches.

Put him on a damp towel in a temp cage until you can get him to a vet.

Definately a vet, and GET IT MOIST, saline is most ideal because it is the same as the fluid inside the body. If it dries out the tissue dies, it's already starting to, you can tell due to the color darkening. A vet should be able to fix it fairly easily, but you would probably want to make sure your diet and enclosure is ideal to prevent reoccurance. Sometimes it happens for no reason, but most often prolapse is environmental.

thanks Dez! I thought it was warm water!!!

Yep, it's vet time! That is a nasty prolapse and if not taken care of quickly the tissue will dry out and die. If it starts to dry out and lose blood supply it can easily get infected and that infection can spread to the rest of his body. The vet can try to replace it and put in a stitch to keep it in, but if it looks devitalized or doesn't stay in they will need to amputated. They can both be amputated because the other their use for is reproduction, not urination (which is why they're hemipenes instead of penis). He just wouldn't be able to breed anymore, which he may not be able to anymore anyway if they're damaged. Some cold water will stimulate vasoconstriction (the blood vessels shrink) so the tissue can shrink. If it goes back in then great! But if not then keep it moist with ky jelly until you can get him to the vet but don't wait. Find someplace tomorrow so you don't have to pay emergency fees on the weekend when most places are closed.

Guys. I followed all of the above advice. We kept it moist and rushed to the vet. The vet could not get it to shrink enough to push it back in. Being that Waldo was a full grown wild caught chameleon whom I had for 4.5 years. We decided to not opt for surgery. It has been a crazy day for my girlfriend and I. I talked to some people who convinced me that euthanasia was the way to go. Otherwise he faced a certain slow/painful death.
Thank you all for your support.
RIP Waldo 10/20/2011
