I'm new to this site and first must say hi. Just got my first chameleon 1 week ago. He is a veiled. My son that just turned 5, had to name him Rango. Of coarse! Lol. I have been reading posts and desided to join.
I came across Rango by trade my r/c plane for him. I have always had reptiles but never a chameleon. So I jumped on the opportunity.
My first question.
I have an old uvB 10.0. Can u use it for the time till I get a 5.0.
Thanks

Welcome to the addiction!
How old is the bulb and how long waist used before?

We tend to replace UVB bulbs every 6-8 months as UVB production tends to reduce significantly after this time.

How old is your new chammie?

Welcome to the forum. On the light, do you have any idea how long it was used? A uvb loses the light a cham needs after about 6 months of use. If you are getting a new uvb in the next few days the old 10. is better than nothing, but I would hate to count on it unless you know how much it has been used.

Welcome to the forum!!! :) lots of fun and info to be had on here!
That's cute that your son named him Rango, that was a great movie lol

The bulb was never used. Just sitting in my old reptile stuff. Yes I had been reading all the info on here. I'm guessing he 9 months to 1 year young from his size. He's healthy but I feel he's a bit skinny.
Thanks for your replies.
I hope to read more.

If you post photos of him on your arm, we can guess age, and checked he's skinny looking.

If you hang the UVB bulb a bit higher than the 5.0 will be, then using it Will be fine.

Welcome to the forum.
If your 10% is too bright from your cham, you can put a piece of black
'cutter-guard' or screen to dim it a bit.
This works well for basking lights too, when they are a little too hot.

Just a little helpful tip :D

Here is Rango. Im a mobile user, so i had to break out my old crappy computer.lol

Lol you're getting flooded with welcomes and here is mine as well....

Welcome!!!

:DI had to out do everyone lol Congrats on your new cham he's a good lookin little boy

Kinda hard to tell if he's skinny, the first pic looks like i see ribs but the other 2 no, it may be just the angle. Just my opinion though

He looks handsome, and not skinny in my opinion!
And I agree with you, likely 8-10 months.
I hope not to offend you, Ladybones! It's just, his casque may be a little small but some male veiled's have smaller casques. His body however looks like a young adults body.

After looking at your photos,

Id say his age is around 5-7 months, closer to 6 or 7 months.
