Hi to everyone
I am new to the forum and new to chameleons I am currently researching ambilobe chams as I have been wanting to get one for quite a while now I have worked out my housing situation now and am just looking a what else I will need although new to chams I am not knew to reptiles so if anyone has any advice on keeping the ambilobes would be appreciated I will be looking at a baby so one thing would be to ask what size viv i would need could he/she go staright into a large one.

Would be a baby at the age the shops would let them go probably but cant be 100 percent as I am only just looking into everything at the moment so but as young as possible so I can see it grow and give it the best life possible really

Welcome to the forums. I have some panthers and they are very sweet chameleons. I also have a blog for new keepers attached below. It will tell you what all you will need to gets started, show you links to pictures of the items and where you can but them.

I'm in uk and I use a wooden viv with glass doors and a screen top. There are some in uk that use all screen vivs quite successfully. I chose mine before I bought my ampiskiana Cham and treated it so water could damage it. Wood holds the humidity better IMO. It very much depends where you are in uk also where in your home you are going to keep it. Hope that helps. Welcome to the forum.

Thankyou I do love the ambilobes and have been set on them for a while so to start with if i got something around 2 ft highthat would be sufficient for a baby for a while?

Your baby will need a 4 ft high enclosure eventually. It very much depends how old it is when you get it . If its too big it will have problems finding its food unless you cup feed it. Part of a large viv could be sectioned off if it is tiny. IMO it is better to get one 3-4 months old when it is past the critical stage. There is a high mortality rate in anything younger.

I have seen alot of poeple on the net that cup fed but would that make them lazy and what size would you suggest you could put a 3-4 month old into
Thankyou it does help :)

Mine was 3months. I put him straight into a 4ft by 4ft by 2 ft on day one . Cup feeding has its advantages as I don't want crickets in viv at night as they can bite and annoy. I can also count how many he has eaten. I also feed locusts and allow them to free range and Popeye can grab them when he wants. I don't buy large ones or wingers. They bite as well. I put the cup in the same place so he knows where it is.

WOW 4ft x4ft x2ft hxwxd I dont have that amount of space but I guess that is bigger than he requires I was looking at a vivexotic ax24 would that be sufficient enough for when he was fully grown

I lie. Its 4ft high 3 ft wide and 2ft deep. You will need the hight as they like to climb.

A 2x2x4 enclosure is considered the minimum space requirement for an adult.

If you dont already have an enclosure on hand, Id recommend just going ahead with an adult sized enclosure, that way your not buying one for just temporary use.

The only real issue with putting a baby in a larger enclosure, is ensuring that they can find their food. This could resolved by cup feeding while he is small, or at least cup feeding some of his food, that way you know that he is eating something, and releasing a few feeders into the enclosure to keep his hunting skills up.

I have used all different types of feeding methods, and hand feeding and bin feeding do make them "lazy".

He will grow very fast when young though, so finding food, if a problem, would only be so for a short amount of time.

Wow that look really great you have done a great job with it i bet he loves it in there.

No I dont currently have anything for one to go in but saw a post from some one saying they have a ax36 split down the middle with an male in one and female in the other so thought a ax 24 would be large enough for him when he was fully grown maybe will have to look at the difference for the 36 and see if i have the space

Thankyou
