Hi, Im new here. I just purchased a male Jackson Chameleon after a failed attempt at raising 2 baby veiled chameleons (RIP i miss them :(, they were beautiful creatures) and I hope to do well with this guy here. My friend raised a breeding pair of jacksons that were brought from Hawaii from his cousin so I know a lot more about them than Veiled Chams.

PS how do you upload a picture on a msg? thanks!

Hello, welcome to the forum :) I never had a Jacksons myself so I know a lot more about the Veileds.
I want to get a Jacksons next though - this is a great video from another forum member about raising Jacksons - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKTbUaOQ0aA (I know it's quite long, but it's worth it :))

Welcome to Chameleon Forums!

Sorry to hear about your veileds. :(

That vid that David posted is great, it gives a nice overall "shpill" on jackson care. ;)

Id also recommend looking over Hoj's montane care sheet:https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/hoj/634-montane-chameleon-care-info.html

I started with a jackson, and they are great animals to work with IMO.

If you have any questions after reviewing the vid and caresheet, please ask!

There are no "stupid questions". ;)

Again, welcome to Chameleon Forums! Its great to have you here. :)

ok i have the basking light on one side and the UVB on the other, i turned the basking light off as the lil guy started opening his mouth so i figured it was too hot....now that the lights off hes still opening the mouth but its not as frequent...it cant possibly be more than 75 in the cage....i turned the basking light back on for fear that it may be too cold for reptar...please help!

on a side note hes eating, letting me squirt water into his mouth and pretty active? im confused...

DO NOT SQUIRT WATER INTO HIS MOUTH!

They aspirate easily, and this is very dangerous if you are not familiar with their anatomy.

Opening the mouth means either too hot(to try and cool off, which is a last resort measure for them) or they are trying to dry out their mouth area, and kill an infection.

If its not heat, its likely infection, and he needs a vet.

What are you measuring temps with?

i turned the basking light back on for fear that it may be too cold for reptar...

I named my first lizard Reptar :D Woo, go Rugrats!

I also just got a male Jackson's and when I first brought him home he was opening his mouth quite a lot too.
