Hello everyone!

Im new in this "little" hobby of ours, I just got my veiled male a few days ago he is three weeks old and is the cutest little thing ever. He is very cautious and seems very very gentle. He is doing the funny walk all the time while walking on the branches which is very funny to watch :) When I get close to the cage he will start shaking like a leaf thinking I don't see him probably :D very cute!

My temporary cage is 40" long and 20" tall ( I know this is small but for a baby it should do just fine me thinks ) I have a Repti Glo 10.0 26w UVB bulb, one 6500 CFL and a normal incadescent bulb to provide the heat.

I mostly feed him fruit flies and I just introduced crickets, i try to get the smallest ones for him since he is a size of a thumb :D

Oh and I still dont have a name from him :( I just call him little one :D

I got him of a breeder here in Croatia, checked him and the dad out, they seem very healthy to me ( not that I know much )

I was also wandering if 3 weeks old is too young? Should I have gotten him when he would grow up a bit?

You may want to try and exchange the reptisun 10.0 for a reptisun 5.0, the 10.0 may be too powerful for the little guy. Very cute BTW =)
 
Hmm, well the breeder I got the animal from uses 10.0 and that's the only lamps he had in stock. Pet shops here have really poor choices, next to none.
I couldn't even find a moonlight bulb :/ So I just go with the best I can find for now. The guy even gave me a Nekton MSA supplements for free.

The thing with this big pet stores here is they don't even keep animals like this anymore because they go sick and die on them. Any advice from these people is to be discarded and ignored. Small shops only focus on cat and dog food, some aquarium stuff and thats about it. I managed to get crickets from a big store and will breed them, Luckily I have fruit growing in my back yard including grape vines so i started stuffing crickets with it.

Should get my moonlight this week so I can watch the little guy at his night time :)
 
Don't buy a bulb for night time. They sleep at night and any kind of light will keep them awake and cause problems. He needs to be awake all day and asleep all night. They can see blue and red lights too just like us. If you keep the 10.0 farther away it should be fine, also I have never heard of those supplements?
 
I take that back I haven't read they cant see it, just that it is a very mild light which mimics moonlight and provides night temperatures and also that it doesn't bother them.

In the case it does, no moonlight lamp!
 
By the looks of it, that is not for regular use. A lot of people (including me) use a dusting schedule of plain calcium with no phosphorus every feeding, calcium with D3 2 times a month (but only once if you keep using the 10.0), and a multivitamin supplement once a month. That does not look like it has vitamin A or other vitamins he needs, only Calcium and D3. You CAN overdose on artificial D3, so I would stop using that. A lot of people have also started using repashy all-in-one with good results. That would be every feeding just the one supplement.

Also, many reptiles can't see the red or blue lights, but Chameleons can and it does keep them up.
 
Hello and Welcome! you are going to get conflicting opinions on the 10.0 vs the 5.0. Go with your gut on this one!!

Now that you mention it, it does look like he has a puffy bubble on the bottom. Hmm... Well I don't know what the breeder is doing exactly, but if he is alsso giving just that one supplement he gave the OP it could be from lack of vit A... But that's just a theory.
 
Hm I'm not sure what to look at I mean obviously the eye but both of them look the same to me.
 
with the new owners we always ecommend to fill the form:

Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
Location - Where are you geographically located?

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.

Hello Ivan, welcome to the forum :) Your new guy looks good, and his Dad looks very handsome too.
3 weeks is a bit younger than most people would recommend to sell them (mostly it should be at least 2 months old). A light at night is not needed, there is little point with Chams because they do nothing at night except sleep anyway. If you need extra heat then a ceramic heater that gives off no light is best. They do need a drop in temps at night so as long as it stays above 55F (13C) you don't need heat either.
The problem with the eye is very minor but it might have a little 'puffiness' - maybe due to a vitamin imbalance. Hard to tell for sure from one photo though.

The best tips for new Chameleon owners is to get the vitamins right, and offer as much variety of insects as you can (good gutloading is essential too). Congratulations on your new little guy :)
