New here and I've been searching frequently here lately. My names Michael and about 3 weeks ago purchased my first chameleon which was a veiled. She's beautiful and healthy. Not exactly sure how old she is, but I'd guess for her to be a little shy of 5 months... I also just purchased a 3.5 month old blue bar ambilobe. Very excited to see what colors he produce. I did have a few questions however since my veiled did not have any issues and was quite easy up front. My ambilobe has what appears to be an ever so slight droop of his eye on the left side. It's not sunken in nor does it look irritated. But right below the pupil, you can see a little bit of eye white since the eyelet is more egg shaped than a perfect hole like his other eye. The breeder offered an exchange, but really I'd like for the little guy to be ok. He also hasn't eaten much and he doesn't move around very much once in his cage, I just assumed he was acclimating and I'm trying not to worry too much. I also hope im over exaggerating the eye issue as well.

Welcome to the forums. This is a great place to learn about chameleons and meet other keepers. I keep veileds and panthers along with a couple other species and have a few links for you about general care, female care and egg laying and the laying bin. Females will lay eggs without a male even being around. I have a 5 month old little veiled girl and she's had a laying bin since 4 months old.

I am sorry your little boy's eye is not exactly right. I would recommend you post some pictures of him and his set up and fill out the Ask For Help form just incase the way you are keeping him might could have something to do with it. Post some photos of your girl too. I'd like to see her.

His eye im concerned about

You beat me to the photos. Your little girl is so pretty! Your boy is a cutie also. What kind of vitamins are you using? I'm wondering if his eye might be a vitamin A issue.

Thanks Jann, I have pictures up and I noticed the eye on the way home from the breeder. So it's not anything that has developed with me. I'll be sure to fill out the questionaire as well, but I have done quite a bit of homework. I'm aware of the egg laying and what to do for my female when she becomes gravid. I'm also aware the eye on my Panther could be a bit A deficiency, but most cases I looked into were much more severe. This is so minor I was hoping to hear that his eye may just be like that.

Currently dusting with exo terra multi vitamin as well as their calcium, but with the calcium, I'll be honest I'm not sure if it contains D3 or not as I know I'm suppose to keep that down to about twice a month. I was hoping the vit A in the multivitamin would help his eye, but he's not the sturdiest eater as I just brought him home 2 days ago. He did eat 2 crickets and a meal worm the first day but nothing since.

It could even be the breedEr might not have used vit. A.

I had an adult panther who's eye started looking like that and my vet put him on an ointment with a steroid in it and it cleared it up.

Don't wait until she's gravid, because it's very hard to tell. Just keep a lay bin in with her at ball times.

In my blog for new keepers above I have the supplements linked that I use. They will both need calcium without d3 at just about every feeding and a multi vit. with A and D twice a month.

Hopefully he not eating because he's still adjusting to his new home.

Thank you. Was just going to ask if I needed to see the vet or if I could order the ointment. And thanks for the tip on my female. I'll keep her bin with her. I was expecting to see signs.

Here's another pic of my boy, I think he has beautiful colors for how young he is, he's suppose to be a blue bar but he's showing some red in his bars, not sure if they'll become more blue or not.

Your little boy is really looking good color wise. Now if you can just get his eye cleared up. The ointment was prescription. Do you have a reptile vet? There's an excellent one in Marathon, FL, Dr. Mader. I drive 4 1/2 hours to see him. There's another one that's seen chameleons before in Weston but he's not a specialist like Dr. Mader. Let me know if you need his name and I'll find it for you. Also you could try the vit. A first. I think that's what I'd do.

I have given him some vitamin A via a coated Q-tip, but im not exactly sure how frequently i administer it to him. I have gotten him to eat finally today thankfully. I believe he is getting more use to his home. Also forgot to mention I gave him a few drops of saline solution to his left eye so I'm hoping all of this ends up being ok. On a side note, my female is doing great, loves eating crickets from a set of tongs and nails them like clock work. She seems very healthy.
