hemipenis out while pooping?

Is that what I saw? At first i thought it was blood, but as soon as he finished up the redness retracted back inside...so? was this his hemipenis being pushed out from taking a poop? is this normal?

It happens but can be a sign of over eating/constipation. You may want to add a few extra soft worms. But like I said it happens, too often and you should be concerned once in a while no biggie.

Was the poop a larger than normal one? Does he go everyday? How did the urate look?

Yes, that is what you saw more than likely. If it happens every time, then there is a concern. If it happens every once in a great while, it's not usually a problem. SOmetimes, if chams are a little constipated, they need to push a little harder. Well, since the hemipenis is there as well, it comes out as well.
If it doesn't retract right away, then there could be problems as well.

thanks guys. this is the first time I've ever seen it, but I don't see him pooping all that often. It retracted immediately after he was done. it was a pretty big (long) poop. both it and urate looked good though. he poops every day or two. he's feeding on medium-large crickets about 8 or so a day. i'll be keeping an eye on him.

That's happened to hyperion once or twice. Have you ever seen the whole thing? It's realllllly weird looking. Hyperion stuck it out and wiggled it at me once then pulled it back really quickly.

good news is he didn't wiggle anything at me! it don't think it was the whole thing, just the tip  But yes it's a very weird looking phallus, quite gross really!

hopefully i don't see any more of this and can forget about it--although it may be hard to tell because i usually don't catch him in the act...

eh, that was one hell of a sight to wake up to this morning..

He only likes me when I have superworms :) I was trying to hand feed a cricket when he did it.

It may have been a hemipene, or it could have been part of the cloaca. It is not uncommon for some of the cloaca to evert slightly while defecating. Like others have said, if it happens regularly (I know, I know, I don't see mine poop too often either) it could put him at risk for a variety of prolapse type problems. Probably nothing to worry about though.
