My chameleon (minieme) sleeps all day and all night, and rarely opens his/her eyes. plus i cant find that much food for him/her, where somedays he/she goes with no food(all the pet stores here say that in about a month the food will get here). When i do get food, his/her tongue only stretches out a few inches. I just fed him/her a small piece of tomato but its still in his/her mouth while sleeping. whats wrong? what can i do? (he/she is still 18cm long from head to tail, and i don't know either the gender or species but i'm guessing a female Veiled Cham)

I don't think tomatoes should be in a chams diet. I believe they're toxic. Have you tried looking for feeder suppliers of the internet. Where are you located?

i don't know i read that tomatoes give them Vitamin A and calcium. as for feeder suppliers of the internet, i've never bought anything from the internet nor do i have a credit card. and my parents don't like pets. i live in Amman, Jordan (Middle East).

Hi! Your Cham can get calcium and vit A from leafy greens. You should also have calcium and multivitamin supplements. If its only 18cm then it's still a juvenile and needs lots of food, every day! Tomatoes are toxic! And if your chaneleon is too weak to even eat it then I'm sorry, but I dont have much hope for its life. I don't mean to sound harsh and please don't think I'm having a go at you but why would you get such a high maintenance pet when you do not have the means to take care of it? Something so basic as food should be the first thing you think about, can I provide food for my pet should be something you consider before you take anything home. If your patents aren't willing to buy food from the net then I imagine that they won't pay for the vet either. By the sounds of it, this poor chaneleon is so far gone that it needs a vet if it's even going to have a glimmer of a chance at survival.

Again, so sorry if I'm coming across as mean, I don't want to make you feel
Bad but I feel I have to tell you this.

Can you post a picture of your minime please and we can maybe tell you gender, species and a rough age.

Sorry your link doesn't seem to be working. I'm glad you're doing the right thing :) I sincerely hope it all goes ok for you guys.

How about wild caught insects? If i am not mistaken you live in a hot country which must have an abundance of wild insects. I know there is a danger of parasites but i think you will have to take that chance.

i actually do that, but the thing is, the gardner had sprayed the plants because of the cutworms. so i don't think catching insects again for about a week or so from there would be good. ( i think i will go and look for insects out of my neighborhood). and as for the vets in Amman, i asked if they treat chameleons and they said no.(plus when i got the chameleon he was in a worse environment than now), so i'm hoping for the best!

Pm me I will try to help u ..I will look today and see if I can find someone who ships insects internationally and ill buy them and have then sent to u...in the meantime , til we get them there, please go around and try to catch some bugs so he makes it til they get there

How to ask for help
Here is some recommended information to include when asking for help in the health clinic forum. By providing this information, you will receive more accurate and beneficial responses. It might not be necessary to answer all these questions, but the more you provide the better. Please remember that even the most knowledgeable person can only guess at what your problem may be. Only an experienced reptile veterinarian who can directly examine your animal can give a true diagnosis of your chameleon's health.

Can you answer the questions above as fully as possible so as we can help you.

i'm not sure of its species, sex nor age (but i'm guessing a female veiled cham for about 3-5 months) and it has been with me for about a week.
i handle my cham about 3 times a week.
i fed it 2 moths and a small fruit fly this first week
i still don't have any supplements
i use dripping and misting(misting twice a day), and i saw her drink twice
she has the brown, white , and some green shades all over.
History : i got her from a pet store that had her in a small plastic container with pebbles on the bottom and a ship decoration only. and i dont know what they feed her.
cage is glass, (it's an Aquarium with 20cm width, 16cm height and 12cm length).
as for lighting i have UV and normal light, (don't know the brand)
mostly room temp and after misting = humidity (don't have a thermometer)
live plants (succulents, and branches.with soil, leaves and pebbles on the bottom)
it's located in my bedroom where no one enters so its usually quite and its on the table in front of the window)
in Amman Jordan.
problem is her tongue and she sleeps most of the day and all night .

Thank you for filling in the form. There is a lot wrong with the way you are keeping her but I think the most important thing just now is eating and drinking. Veileds will eat fruit and veg but mostly insects. Can you source any worms/ caterpillars? I don't know what you can get in your country but they eat silkworms, butterworms, hornworms. What about roaches? Dubai, banana. She is still small so very small slivers of fruit would be ok. If you do not have a thermometer and she is in a glass tank in front of a window chances are she is too hot. Has she been sitting with her mouth open at any time? Are you able to get her to drink by dripping water onto her nose?:)

no i've never seen her open her mouth while sitting (she's sleeping most of the time), but i do see her drink. but why would i drip water onto her nose?

Sorry I may have misunderstood. I read that you had seen her drink twice. If that is all she has drunk while she has been in your care she would be dehydrated and dripping water on to her nose may stimulate drinking, however you have said she is drinking so that's good.:) how are you getting on hunting for bugs?

ill see you tomorrow i guess. because it's midnight here now, and i have school tomorrow. THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH! i really appreciate you helping me.
