i have a female veiled chameleon, she is a couple of months over 1 yr old, when i got her she had to be put in with my male, unfortunately maybe for too long, she has now got her own set up and we new that she has eggs so there is a tray of peat moss in her enclosure, 2 or 3 days ago we noticed her on the bottom of her enclosure (not in the tray) and she had an egg under her, she has since layed 3 on the floor but not in the tray where it is dark, she is looking really unwell and any help you can give me would be fantastic

How big is the tray?
I need to be pretty deep for them

I dont think many here would recommend using moss as a substrate for egg laying.
Moist play sand works best.
That might be why she wont dig

You need to act fast before she retains eggs.
If you can get some liquid calcium that would help too, others on here can tell you how much she needs,
Also make sure your feeding her enough for her to keep her strength up.

It needs to be atleast 12inches deep, if I remember right.
Make sure you try using sand,
they want to dig and you can really dig into moss :p

It may be too late to get her to lay in the bin at this point but peat moss is not a good medium as Ashley said. She needs to be able to dig a tunnel that will not cave in on her to bury her eggs. Get some washed playsand and topsoil, 50/50 mix and make sure it is just moist enough to hold a tunnel and not cave in.
She also needs to be undisturbed while she is digging. If she sees you watching she may abandon the hole she is digging. Its a natural instinct for the female to move to another site if she is being watched. I usually will cover my females cage with a sheet and only peek through a small hole to make sure she does not know she is being watched.

Also, I was rereading your first post and it kind sounds like
you think that shes laying eggs because her and the male mated
while together.
Just for future reference females WILL lay eggs WITHOUT a male, no matter what.

You might already know but just incase :p

she is currently laying around the bottom of the enclosure, i really dont want to disturb her, should i leave the eggs where they are or put them into the tray?

If there is a chance they are fertile, put them in some vermiculite as quickly as you can. They will dry out quick and you might not be able to save them. I had a clutch laid on the bottom of the cage that I collected as soon as I saw them and had 6 hatch out. They were strong and healthy but that was 6 out of 21 eggs that were laid on the cage floor. You will need to take her to the vet to make sure she does not have eggs left. If she becomes eggbound she will die. Get her laying bin setup properly asap so you dont have to go through this again. The link below is my original thread when I had the same problem with my female panther. Hope this helps.

You said she is laying around the bottom of the cage...is she just sitting there?
How long ago was she with the male?
