I have a panther chameleon i rescued a couple months agoand he had a couple health issues, the most serious being i got in a fight with another male and got his tail bitten and it had to be amputated. He was also a little dehydrated and had a slight eye infection. The vet put him on antibiotics and said he was otherwise healthy but he is not active at all When hes in his cage 80 percent of the time he is sleeping. he is alert and everything when i take him out and handle him but as soon as hes in his cage hes asleep. Can anyone help me or explain this?
 
Sleeping during the day is not good.

My suggestion is to take this to the HEALTH CLINIC (forum below). Click the "how to ask for help" sticky there, copy that, then start a thread. Paste the "how to ask for help" stuff and add your information (It's like a form: "What is your cage set up?" You add your cage set up).
 
Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon -2-3 years. ambilobe male
Handling - 1-2 times a week
Feeding - Crickets i put about 12-15 in his cage every day and most of them are gone that jight but i never see him eat
Supplements - zoomeds repti calcium
Watering - He has a automatic sprayer that goes off every hour for 30seconds and yes i see him drink
Fecal Description - darker brown with yellowish urates
History - I got him from a local reptile shop. a customer of theres dropped him off and didnt want him because he had got into a fight with another male while they were free roaming. He had his tail amputated and other than a slight eye infection the vet said he was in good health

Cage Info:
Cage Type - 18x18x30 screen
Lighting - he has a zoo med 5.0 tube light and a 100 watt basking spot.
Temperature - 85 in his basking sport and 75 in the cooler spot near mid and bottom of cage. Night time temp is 70-75
Humidity - the humidity fluctuate between 65 and 80 as it is somewhat challenging to create humidity in a screen cage
Plants - live. he has 2 ficus and a pothos with artificial vines
Placement - In my bedroom . There is a fan that runs at night. About 3.5 feet off the ground and it is a very low traffic room
Location - Sandiego california
 
try taking the cage outside on a sunny day and leaving him out there for 6 hours or so. Just for about a week and see how that goes. I have heard of the wonders of sun light. Also try feeding him foods that would cheer him up, maybe a few silk worms, maybe a few goliaths.

He's probably extremely scared aswell as he might hate everything since his accident. Taking him outside may cheer him up abit.
 
okay he doesnt rele have much of a apetite.The only thing he seems to be alert during is when i put him on his tree in the shower. I think hes going to the vet tommorow
 
Just a note... I'm on the west coast of the US and about to go to bed....so, it's probably not reasonable to expect immediate responses to posts. Just FYI.

100 watt bulb seems real hot for a basking spot to be 85 degrees, how are you monitoring that?

You said his urates are yellow? He could need some extra water while he is on Baytril. May be make him dripper so he has a constant access to water.

Is he still on Baytril? If so how long has he been on it and how many doses are left?

Is he suppose to go to a follow up appointment? May be you could call the vet office and have him seen a little early?
 
I realize that. Thank you but i did not demand a response from anyone i wasnt rude i didnt put any exclamations. sorry but iam a concerned owner.
 
I have temp guages at the bottom and top of the cage. Should i switch to like a 75 watt? and he is off his meds now he was on baytril for two weeks and was getting .08ml and he has a follow up app next week but iam going to call tommorow and see if i can cet an emergency app

And fyi i asked for help not criticism on what time it was and whats not reasonable. I have talked to alot of nice people on here but i have never had someone be rude. Thanks for being my first

Do you use digital thermometer? I only ask because analogs have been way off before. Depends on how cool your house is. I live in Sacramento keep my house at 73-74 and I use 60 watt bulbs in my big cages.

Though there are many people here that can give you great advice nothing will top a Vet who can see your boy in person. I would call them tommorrow. Better safe then sorry.
 
Went to the vet this morning and had to put him to sleep. They said he was most likely full of infection from the previous owner not gettin medical attention to his tail injury and that there was nothing i could do to help the poor guy. Thank you everyone for your help
 
I am sorry to hear they put your boy to sleep, and you had worked so hard to get him back to health. When you are ready you can start with a healthy chameleon and have a lot of wonderful years with your new chameleon.
