They told him 2,000 to cut it and 50 to put him down.

Poor guy RIP.
Are you positive the guy wasn't lying to you he doesn't seem to have a good character judging by the state of the guy in the first place. I know all vets are diferent and vets that specialize in exotics cost more but 2000 seems an outrageous amount for that procedure. However it would have cost more than putting him to sleep thats for sure and maybe he was just unwilling even though he was responsible for his state of health.
I would imagine you feel devastated but you did what you could for him. He's not suffering anymore and by taking him you likely saved him from a slow death.
