Help, reconsidering supplements???

Ok so some of you may have seen my recent thread regarding my Kai and his tongue issue. After his vet visit the only thing that showed up was slightly elevated calcium. I was given very good advise from a member here and have decided Kai was most likely suffering a D3 overdose. I feel terrible about this and can't believe Ive unintentionally poisoned my baby :(

So here is the old schedule: Everyday dust w/ Miner-all-Outdoor, 2x month dust w/ Rep-cal calcium w/D3 no phos., and Rep-cal multivitamin

Planned NEW Schedule: Everyday Miner-all Outdoor, 2x month 50/50 mix Rep-cal Herptivite and Repashy Calcium Plus. Or I could do Cal plus 1x/mon and Herpvit 1x/mon.?

Here is my reasoning for this 50/50 mix and please comment if this is a good or bad idea. Rep-cal has the prOformed A (Beta Carotene), no D3; Repashy Cal Plus has performed A but a lower D3(20,000 IU) than Rep-cal(400,000 IU!!).

So if I cut the Repashy with Herptivite then it would be similar to using Repashy LoD, plus Id be supplementing both NEEDED A vitamins. Does this make sense and is it advised? Please let me know what you think. Thanks a million :)

I'm glad Kai doesn't have any serious problems. To be honest that sounds like a really complicated schedule. This is from my blog for new keepers how I recommend they supplement.

The feeders have to be "lightly" dusted with 2 kinds of supplements. When your chameleon is young you will use plain calcium (no d3) at just about every feeding...... if you skip one or two days a month that's ok. You will also need Reptivite with d3 twice a month.

An adult male chameleon will not need nearly as much supplements. If your Cham gets allot of outside time and you feed a large variety of well gutloaded feeders, he may not need any calcium or D3 at all, just a multivitamin without D3.

I don't hink you need to worry about giving any (prOformed) beta carotene if you are giving prEformed vitamin A. What you do need to know though is that prEformed sources of vitamin A cannot build up in the system so you need to not over do it. The controversy with chameleons and vitamin A. Is that some people say they can't convert the prOformed sources into vitamin A.

Thanks JannB, my head is totally spinning with trying to find the perfect balance between the big 3; repashy cal plus, Herptivite and Reptical

Im just so leery to give D3 now. His feeder gut loads are all natural w/ good variety and with a very occasional bug burger "treat". This summer he had plenty of natural sun and he has his new Arcadia bulb. Then you have me shoving 400,000 IU's of D3 in him 2x a month!! Poor kid :( Im just hoping the reprieve of D3 for a month will show great improvement! After that, taking into consideration what you said I think 1x a month should be all he needs.

Thanks so much :)
