Well, my veiled is about 2 months old now. She has been eating well and is getting bigger by the day. Today I cleaned her cage so I took her out and put her on my window sill with a plant in the sun. Now she has to be in the sun. She fell trying to get back to the sun after she went in her cage. I have now moved the cage so the sun hits the cage. Is that ok and how long should she be sitting in the sun?? If she is to hot will she move on her own?? Any help would be great.

First of all she is not getting any UVB from the sun through a window. UVB does not pass through plastic or glass so there really is no benefit for what you are doing. And yes, it can make the cage too hot. You are best to take your chameleon's cage outside (if possible) or bring a plant outside for sunshine. Make sure to not leave your chameleon unattended if not in its cage, birds will eat chameleons!. If they are getting too hot in the sun they will let you know by opening their mouth. They are doing this to try and cool down. Make sure there is shade provided also if you decide to sun.

Jann is right - babies are not able to thermoregulate like adults can. Even as adults they don't always realise they are too hot and should move into the shade. My first female LOVED being out in the sun and would sit and gape but still she wouldn't move into the shade. I had to physically move her cage back indoors for her to cool down. Chams are not the smartest when it comes to heat!
