Hey everyone, I think my chameleon burned herself? or rubbed her casque on the cage? I think her basking spot was a bit hot before so I raised the lamp a bit so it is in the lower-mid 80's now but I'm still not sure what to do, I feel so bad :(. Here are a few pictures, first picture is from the other day before it happened (shes translucent so she does have a white patch and a black spot on her casque/forehead) but as you can see the other pictures are different.. anyone have an idea of what could of happened? any suggestions on what to do?

Hi, welcome to the forums.

It does appear your chameleon has a thermal burn.

1.. Correct your basking light set up. Temps need to be monitored by a digital thermometer. Set the temp to 90*. This should be directly under the light and account for the 3-4 inches your chameleon will sit above the basking spot.

2. Apply some silvadene.

these pictures are out of focus but i would say she may have a light burn, it dosent look horrible in the pics. just make sure you adjust the lighting so it cant happen again.

hope this helps :)

by the way how old is your cham?

Thank you both for the quick replys and thanks for the welcoming. I'm going to try and look for a vet to bring her to and get some silvadene prescribed in the morning. do you think 85ish would be good? I'm worried I don't wanna burn her again, It wasn't much higher then 90 before maybe 92 the highest and she can't really reach that area. I use a zoo med digital infrared thermometer(not sure how good they are?) Shes about half a year I'm not exactly sure, I'll be getting more information soon though. Oh and sorry bout the picture quality bad cell phone.

Pictures are a bit fuzzy, but definitely looks like it could be a burn, but not a really bad one. Not sure how you're measuring your temps, but keep in mind if you are measuring the temp of the branch/vine surface, your chams casque can get a lot closer to the light.

That being said, seeing as yours is a female, you should check out this link: http://raisingkittytheveiledchameleon.blogspot.ca/2007/12/keeping-female-veiled.html It has some interesting info on keeping female veileds. Good luck with her. With proper treatment, she'll be just fine.
