It does look like a burn for sure. how close is your basking branch from his light? You have to allow enough room so his casque does not touch the top of the screen which looks like might have happened. I believe Silvadene creme is used for burns, but not sure if you can get that over the counter without seeing a vet first.

your bottom quote says "your are only young once" shouldn't it be "you are only young once" or is that like part of the joke? other then that this looks like a nasty nasty burn... I would look up what creams are okay for reptile burns. As for a vet visit if you find out it is for sure a burn, I would find good cream and not go to the vet and spend 500 dollars there. jmho... vets are incredibly pricy!!!
