Help! panther chameleon laying eggs!

I'll start from the beginning.
I bred my female panther Chameleon with my male and she showed sign of having eggs about 35-40 days after her. She seemed to find it difficult to dig in the first substrate I have her and I ended up taking her to the vets and they gave her the hormonal injection and she laid her eggs at the vets that night, and everything was fine. About another 40days later she started showing sign of having eggs again so I changed the substrate to the same as the vets used, and she laid fine at home all by herself. It's been another 40days maybe more and she started showing signs of eggs again so I've put her laying bin in her enclosure just like I normally would. She went down into it and started digging so I thought everything was fine, that night I checked on her and saw that she was asleep inside her hole/tunnel and thought she must have just been tired from digging. The next morning I checked on.her again and she was still there asleep, I then began to worry that she had died or was stuck so I immediately gave her a little nudge, she didn't wake up but she moved and changed colour so I left her alone, about a hour after this she had climbed half way out of her bin, so I assumed she was okay and left her to her business. That night I then checked on her that night and she had dug somewhere else with her head in first, I didn't want to disturb her again so I left her alone, woke up in the.morning to find ahe was still in the same position, head in first. I thought she might have just been asleep because I had only just turnt her lights on. Once again I checked her later on and she's still in the same position. Leaving her to it again, because I don't want her to become to stressed and become egg bound. Today she has moved but only further in to her tunnel, still head in first.

Do you think something is wrong? Should I take her to a vet? I'm extremely worried, and need advice as I don't want to just pull her out, and stress her out a lot. Thanks xx

I did post this in the 'Chameleon breeding' category aswell, but no.ones answered yet, so copied in onto here xx

Sorry I have limited experience breeding chams. My female will dig in anything including the potted plants and doesn't seem to have any problems. I would definitely give your vet a phone call and see what he has to offer.

Good luck.

Shes fine.

It takes females a few days to finish laying. (mine took 3 full days)

Yes they do sleep in their holes.

As long as the tunnel hasnt collapsed on her, then leave her be.

My female dug down almost 10 inches to lay her eggs.

She will keep digging (head down) until she reaches the depth she wants, then she will turn around and lay.

Many females do the laying at night.. so just leave her be.

What substrate are you using?

I've had female's lay on the first try and I've had females try like 4 to 5 *in my opinion as long as they have somewhere to lay the eggs they will be fine also make sure that the dirt is moist enough and it is sticks because sometimes when the caves in on them they stop digging.

I agree with ibdragons, only thing to be worried about is how moist the dirt is because it can collapse on them i had it happen once, she was saved though!:)

Thanks for the help! :)

I've woke up this morning and she is still in her tunnel, looks like she's gone down even further now, I can't actually see any bit of her.
So hopefully she is just finding the right depth.
The substrate is fine, I can see the top part of her tunnel and its holding fine, nothing is collapsing.
I'm using vermiculite (not to sure how to spell) I know this isn't the usual thing to use, but I tried top soil with the first eggs she laid and she didn't like it and I ended up taking her to the vet, they gave her the injection and she laid there over night, and the vet said they used the vermiculite, so i changed mine to it when she was laying again and she laid absolutely fine in it.
Do you still think everything is okay?

Once again thanks for the advice already provided xxx

No problem glad to help! It is a good idea to mix sand with whatever you use it helps prevent the hole from caving in. Just think of how well wet sand at the beach holds it shape, I use organic soil, sand, and tropical soil

I'll put some in next time then :)
She is still in her tunnel and I'm still unable to see her.
Do you think she is still okay?
xx

As long as it didnt collapse she should be fine can you see her tail?. I have a female digging ATM and she started yesterday I seem her today climbing around with dirt on her head and now she is going back to work :p

I could see it yesterday but now I can't so I think she has gone further in, it's been about 3-4days now, would you still say leave her to it? xx

Did you see if she came out at night to sleep? I've had my chams digging for a couple of days but they usually take a break.if you haven't seen her in two days, see if you can see movement or hear any sign of her in there I mean she should be fine but better safe than sorry!

I've managed to turn her bin and get a picture of her, shes at the bottom part of the whole, if you can't work her out xx

I thought I might have saw her tail pop out again yesterday, but i'm not 100% sure.
She could come out at night while i'm asleep but can't be sure of that either xx

She's now moved so I can only see her arm.
Do you think she's okay?
Thank you so much for carrying on replying xxxx

As long as you know she is alive than she should be fine it's her first time laying she might be picky. My female has her head stickpin out of the hole today so I know when she come out next the eggs should be in there
